Mr. Allen needs to lose his love affiar with sheattlites (i would use the term we use in the timbers army but...) and replace natroy with a coach that runs an actual system on offense and d. Something with any motion at all....would be nice...but sadly mr. allen (owner of the flounders) just loves sgt mcnatroy. I bet KP wishes he could fire natroy without mr. allen noticing....
I've NEVER been more confused then after reading that well written post. Can you do it agin in english?
I think it can be handled another way. Many of the supposed best coaches in the league are where they are today, because of their assistants. There are certain assistants out there who are specialist in defense and offense, but it all depends on what you want to run. Dick Harter and Tom Thibidoeu are defensive specialist. Tex Winters and Pete Carril are offensive specialist. There are a few others out there that fit this bill. My solution to the issue, is to bring in an offensive specialist as an assistant and let them hold the reigns there, and teach.
Yea it is interesting you bring that up. A few weeks back Brent Barry was on the NBATV show that follows all the games and the set rotation topic came up. In particular when they were talking about a Portland game. He says a coach only uses set rotations if he has control issues with the team. But that is just a guy who played in the league for a decade+ stating his view I suppose.....
Except a lot of coaches have set rotations. Brent even played for one for a couple of years in San Antonio.
That doesn't mean they don't have control issues. I also disagree with you on Popovich. I don't think his rotations are anywhere near set, I have seen him yank a player within a play or so if he didn't think they were playing the right way. I have also seen him ride the hot hand.
And you haven't seen Nate yank a player for the same thing? That's one of people's biggest complaints on here, him yanking some players for making mistakes. Sergio, Bayless, Rudy. Pop has a fairly set pattern he uses. Is it exact? No. And neither is Nate's. But he has a system he sticks to. Go ahead and track the game logs from the past few years if you don't think so.
natroy = the double headed coaching monster that likes no motion slow ball...since nate and roy are buddy buddy along with blake are the only ones that like or "FIT" the natroy system. Natroy needs to be broken up if roy wont change his style to bring us to the next level then one day we will have to trade him but nate has to be the first to go. He is the John Nash of coaching....clean up crew but ship him out for the next stage.
Yes and no. More or less he did that early in their careers, and then just didn't play them much later. So to speak, the "jerkings out of the game" stopped after he established his rotation. The only reason Bayless got into games recently was due to injuries. Otherwise, we would have never seen him. Also I would point out, you still haven't ever seen Nate ride a hot hand. Because it hasn't happened. That is very important IMO for coaches to recognize and take advantage of at the time. Pop will. I also saw Pop yank Tim Duncan out of a game once, for poor play.
Early in their careers? They are all still early in their careers. As for Bayless, he got in MORE due to injuries, but he was getting into games before Blake and Rudy went down also. Which is odd, seems like with a set rotation, we wouldn't see some games where Bayless would play, and others where he wouldn't. And some games where Rudy would play 12 minutes, and some over 30. Really strange.
subtitle: Mr. Paul Allen needs to end his love affair with the people of Seattle and replace McMillan with a competent coach who knows how to run a system that best suits our players.
Most of those were games where Nate was fishing for somebody to step up and play. Most coaches start doing that when getting their teeth kicked in. Every game watch. Brandon Roy is replaced at this time mark. Miller is replaced at this time mark. The guys who replace them might not pull their load and get yanked, but Nate follows the pattern first, and if it fails him, starts fishing. That is still a set rotation in my book. Because it doesn't matter how hot a player is. Nate will do his first sub in the half at the same time mark every time. As for your early in their careers remark, that has to be taken differently for each and every player. I should have said "earlier" in their careers. Sergio was here for 3 years. I shouldn't have lumped them all together.
Yes, and as I said, that is what Pops does as well. And then as the game goes on, will change based on how hot a player is, or cold. Most of the games Bayless played early, we were getting our teeths kicked in, and he needed something? Want to back that up with facts? Or just your opinion? First game he played against SA, he only got 5 minutes. He entered in the 1st quarter, wiuth us upp 20-12. teeth kicked in? Hardly. Not gonna bother with the next few. He got time, but they were blow outs. So no teeth being kicked in there. Entered a New Orleans game in the first quarter, with us up 9-6. he wasn't getting good consistent minutes for sure. And I'm not trying to say he was. But, it proves my point. His inconsistent minutes isn't really possible if there is a hard set rotation, is it? At least, harder than other coaches. As I said, Pop does the exact same thing with his team. Takes out Parker right around the same time every game. Takes out a guard and forward at the same times. Takes out Bonner(when healthY) same time. And then starts to shift later in the game, to fit how well a player is doing.
