Nobody tells Quick anything. It's hilarious how he tries to act like he knows SO much but can't say anything. Why would KP tell Jason Quick anything about potential trades? It just doesn't make sense.

You're thinking about the wrong end of the transaction. Reporters typically talk to agents and other personal contacts around the league to get the "pulse" of what's going on with the team they cover.

It's like when Crapzano states, "many people are saying"- it really means, "I'm clueless and am digging for a response".

We have the worst media coverage in the country.

You guys are the ones talking out your ass. You may not like Canzano's take or muckraking, but he happens to be an excellent writer, and one recognized as such by his peers.

Quick too clearly does his homework, and that would mean talking to a lot more people than the local GM.

    Duh.

    +1

Just because some of you don't like Quick's style (I hate it!) doesn't mean he doesn't have sources.

Quick knows more then Canzano, but that's not saying much. The only 2 games I've seen Canzano at all year was the Laker and Cavs game.

Canzano's interviewed up here on KJR every once in a while, and actually is a good interview. When he writes about human interest stories, he gets the story across well and I usually enjoy them. When he writes about his basketball opinions, he's not even up to the knowledge level of the average poster in here, and doesn't acknowledge that he's either wrong or has been corrected.

I liked the access that Quick got last year, not so much that he used it to write about bomb-dropping rather than, say, how LMA and Roy could let their relationship fester for a year before coming together. If someone could let a perceived slight like that affect their chemistry in the locker room, I can understand why a) veterans who come in find it hard to gel at first and b) why KP might have something to this "midseason trades disrupt chemistry" thing. But that's neither here nor there. Why aren't those kinds of questions being asked? We know that Roy at least will answer pretty bluntly about how he feels.

I'm not trying to be snarky, but I literally cannot remember the last time Quick actually broke something about a signing or trade that ended up happening that wasn't overtly fed to him by Blazer PR. For all Barrett's homerism, at least he knew (and said it on Courtside like a week before the deadline) last year that we weren't making a trade, even when 95% of the known basketball world thought we were.

Nobody is giving Quick any kind of "inside information". Give me a break. Agents and other GMs have much more important things to deal with than fielding phone calls from our local beat writer. Canzano is a little higher on the totem pole but he still isn't going to get the calls REAL NBA writers get when there is something in the works.

Quick broke the Sheed trade. He knew before Rice and Wheels. I was sitting in Tony Roma's when Quick got the phone call from Sheed's agent. He does have inside info. I've seen it with my own eyes.

I hope it's one of two players:

    *Brendon Haywood
    *JaVale McGee

Javale McGee only makes sense if Joel doesn't come back...We don't really need another project to work on. Haywood would be great.

I've been thinking quite a bit about Joel and his future with the team; with the nature of his injury and the timetable for his return possibly being mid-season next year I wonder just what KP has in mind for the center position next season. Joel will almost certainly opt in to the final year of his contract, but next season he'd make a pretty attractive expiring contract and as much as people want Joel to retire a Blazer I'm starting to doubt that's going to be in the cards.

If they trade for Haywood and retain his bird rights and offer him a contract that he's willing to accept, I can think of a lot worse center tandems than (healthy) GO and Brendan Haywood.

Yep that, and sometimes they have a few front office contacts who will divulge info under the radar.

And almost 17 million in salaries coming in. One of Joel or Miller would almost have to be included to make that work. And for Washington, they can allow Haywood to expire, and could probably trade Jamison for Ilgauzkus' expiring. Why take on 6.8 of Joel next season?
