Hey, I've got an idea....Let's have a 72-hour right of rescission rule on babies. In other words, if at birth, they're ugly as all get-out, or otherwise problematic (multiples, etc.), the parent(s) would have 72 hours to abort him/her/them. Plus, it would be kinda neat to have the 1-week clause. Meaning, if Daddy loses his job within 1 week of birth, the parents would have the right to abort baby at that time. Although, if Congress gets involved that might very well be extended to two weeks...or longer. Film @ 11.

People turn out the way they do because of how they are raised, not how they are conceived. Either commit to put some lifelong effort into raising your child right, or don't have one. If you are pregnant, and for whatever reason not going to be responsible for your children, please abort.
Adoption is out of the question, eh? In case you didn't know, there are many, many fully qualified and responsible couples out there who aren't able to bear children. Jus' sayin'
As with most abstinence studies promoted by white fundamentalists , the motivations are clearly racist in nature. The goal is to stop or decrease minority breeding. Despite being held up as some sort of national indicator, every single subject of this study was black, a decided minority in this nation, rendering the outlandish opinions and conclusions laughable and inapplicable to our mostly white nation. Not surprising that the IrishTimes finds solace in it.
As I write this post there are an estimated 210 Million orphans in the world, 150 Million of them live on the street mostly as sex slaves, 60 Million of them each night go hungry. So the claim that these so-called prospective ideal parents actually exist somewhere is ridiculous. Each and every one of them could be a parent of a lovely child in a matter of weeks if that was truly their goal. What does exist are some self-centered over-inflated egos that want to hand-pick their children as if they were on a shopping trip. Probably the worst choice for a parent. Think Dr. Mengele. A very, very good friend of mine, having somehow survived raising 2 children (1 is in prison) and 1 stepchild who intentionally tried to burn his house down in anger, is now re-married and 55 years old. His new wife wants a baby so they are throwing away $40,000 to some shark of a lawyer and will no doubt raise a befuddled and confused child to near-adulthood and then die, leaving the teen alone in the world with no direction and nobody to turn to. Jus' sayin.
I feel for the orphans, but there's no sin in wanting a baby. IMO, you might want to be careful of putting that type of "guilt trip" on the situation.
Sadly, no. Primary groups of spousal abusers include anyone in a position of authority (military, law enforcement, attorneys, CEO's...) and runs several times higher in the gay and Muslim communities. As with nearly all the evils in the human psyche, low self-esteem is the root cause. edit: I did not mean this as an attack on the general membership of those particular groups mentioned. Just that abuse is a control issue, a power trip, and those groups are known to attract a high percentage of people with low self-esteem, out to prove they are powerful.
I guess I should have said, it is known to be wrong in the US. Perhaps I am too hopeful, naive about it.
I'm athiestic and don't believe in the existence of "sin". I do believe in and live by "The Golden Rule", and under that definition someone who would let a child starve to death or be raped for years on end in exchange for the purchase of an "unspoiled replica of themselves" is not fit to raise anyone. To paraphrase Daffy Duck, "They are dethpsicable!"
