    Re: UFC 109: Relenteless (Feb. 6th)

    Notes on the event:

    -- Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie was expected to take place on this card but the fight was pushed back to UFC 112.

    -- Anderson Silva was supposed to defend his middleweight title at this event but rehabilitation on his surgically repaired elbow pushed the fight back to later this year. His opponent is still slated to be Vitor Belfort.

    -- Nate Marquardt expects a win over Chael Sonnen to make him the next number one contender at middleweight.

    -- Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was going to face Brandon Vera on this card but suffered a fractured ankle in training. Vera will instead face Jon Jones at Ultimate Fight Night 21.

    -- Josh Koscheck was to face Paulo Thiago but was forced to withdraw due to injury and was replaced by teammate Mike Swick. After this bout Thiago will have fought all three American Kickboxing Academy welterweights (Koscheck, Fitch, and Swick).

    -- Some talk of the main event being a title eliminator has Randy Couture fired up about a shot at the light heavyweight champion, who will be either Lyoto Machida or Shogun Rua depending on the outcome of their rematch. Couture/Coleman is the first time two active hall-of-fame fighters have competed against each other. Combined age: 91.

    -- Grappling legend Rolles Gracie makes his UFC debut in the preliminary bouts against hard-luck British heavyweight Mustapha Al-Turk.

    -- Wrestling phenom Phil Davis debuts against All-American Brian Stann.

    Another underwhelming card. This card was struck by injuries too, right?

    Yeah, see post above.

    Also note that 3/6 fighters in the poster pulled out.

    Mustapha al-Turk is out of his fight with Rolles Gracie due to visa issues.

    As expected, Marquardt vs. Sonnen is a title eliminator match.

    I hope Nate knocks him out in the first... Chael has been running his mouth nonstop for weeks.

    I really hope Coleman wins, the dude is in his 40s pretty much and the only reason he's fighting is because he wants to provide for his two daughters...I hope he gets his win bonus.

    Randy pwn3d Coleman. Hang them up, old man. Talk about Randy being in the title picture is now heating up. I expect him to get the winner of Machida/Shogun II.

    Marquardt blew his chance @ another shot, eh?

    Re: UFC 109: Relenteless (Feb. 6th)

    I was really surprised by Marquardt's performance, I was not impressed with his performance. I agree that it's time for Mark Coleman to hang them up, he looked so slow out there, he's bound to catch a real bad punch if he continues. I still thought it was unclassy as hell for Tito to be talking shit to Coleman after his lost though, but then again, Tito isn't exactly known for his class. Paulo Thiago had a nice sub to finish Swick, that's two losses in a row for Swick, I wonder where he goes from here, he won't be out of the UFC but I imagine it might be a while before he makes it back into the title picture.

    and oh man, whose the better prospect at 205? Bones Jones or Phil Davis? Davis was impressive with his domination of Brain Stann tonight, the dude is built like a fucking tank too. Somewhere down the line these two will probably be fighting for the title, maybe it will be against each other.

    Re: UFC 109: Relenteless (Feb. 6th)

    I heard that Randy is in the title picture now but I think its complete bullshit. Dude beat Brandon Vera and Mark fuckin Coleman and hes allowed to get a title shot? I'd say hes deserving after one more win against a legit LHW fighter. I would be pissed off if I was in that division and Randy got a shot at the title after beating two bottom-ranked guys.

    Came back from skiing exhausted and we practically slept through this whole show.

    Great finish by Paulo Thiago.

    Great finish by Randy Couture (vs. a totally awful Mark Coleman).

    Classless nonsense from Tito Ortiz.

    Forgettable PPV.

    Re: UFC 109: Relenteless (Feb. 6th)

    Some thoughts...

    - Phil Davis looks to have serious potential;
    - Melvin Guillard put on a good performance but still looks vulnerable on the ground;
    - Justin Buccholz is probably out of a job; Mac Danzig really didn't look a whole lot better;
    - Matt Serra got a good win but against a washed up opponent;
    - Demian Maia showed that there is another dimension to his game besides submissions, which was an out and out necessity;
    - Mike Swick seems to be in a rut--perhaps the move down to welterweight wasn't a smart one?
    - Nate Marquardt was smothered and overwhelmed by Chael Sonnen. Surprising performance by Nate;
    - Sonnen and Couture are not the most interesting top contenders.
