Got some water on the surface of my nano an hour ago. Wheel completely stopped working. The screen still turns on when I plug it in. Anyone ever experienced this? Am I screwed or will it dry out and work again in a day or two?

update: after letting it sit in a warm area for 30 minutes the wheel now works, but the play/pause button is still not working.

Go buy some isopropyl alcohol. It's similar to rubbing alcohol but it's 99% pure. Swear to god, pour some of it in a glass or bowl. Drop your ipod into it. The liquid alcohol will push the liquid water out of your device. Pull the ipod out of the alcohol and set it out to dry. Alcohol evaporates very quickly and will not damage or rust your ipod.

I found out about this trick when I once accidentally spilled chocolate milk on my laptop during a business trip. The milk dumped all through the keyboard and deep into the laptop. I ran to Fry's in a panic and a salesperson there told me the alcohol trick. It worked great. It took a couple of bottles to rinse all of that crap out of there but I ended up with a working laptop. Since then I also have used the same trick on my cell phone when I once dropped it in a puddle and a friend cell phone who dropped it water. I actually keep a bottle of isopropyl alcohol at home now at all times.

Remember, alcohol is very flammable. Make sure you're not near any open flames, the device is not plugged in and the room is well ventilated.

You might have to go to Radio Shack to find it. Not sure if Freddy's carries it.

Do not plug it in. The alcohol thing sounds fishy to me too.

Stick it in a ziplock bag with one of those dessicants that come in a box of shoes and leave it there for 2-3 days.

or if you need it tomorrow, stick it under a fan overnight and then hard reset it tomorrow.

Just because it's liquid it doesn't make it sketch.

I've used that method before on my iPod Touch and worked a charm.

The Ipod is fully functioning again. I don't think I got enough water on it to do any real, long term damage. Thanks for the help again, guys.

Never discount anything Sly suggests. After all, he's the one who developed the idea of helium blimps roaming around inside sports arenas!

Another trick. Put it in bowl of rice over night, make sure you cover the bowl with plastic wrap. The rice pulls the moisture out.

I put it near a heater. Took about two hours to get back to normal. Pretty sure I was able to get away using this method because of the relatively small amount of water that made it inside the ipod.
