not sure, the problem is that none of the stores are near me really....just like the ones with the minty vegetables in it and some basic meats.....pretty refreshing. there's a Vietnamese Bahn Mi food truck driving around but haven't checked it out. I have them spordaically....if anything but they're pretty good. I heard there's a spot in Beaverton now...kind of weird. But yeah, Hamburgers kick ass...well, except for fast food burgers, don't really like eating those...
Nope....I'll try that next time I get some authetntic Vietnamese food. Most of the Pho shops around me are pretty vanilla, but I do hit up little saigon every once in a while in Orange County, CA. Problem is most of them, I can't even understand the menus, they're pretty hardcore.
I had some vietnamese food the other week....there was some udon-type noodles and a thicker sauce, topped with crabmeat....they have several types of noodle soups....
It seems a lot of people sort of limit vietnamese food to Pho....just kind of odd...its really really popular, maybe since its relatively easy to make I assume? It just seems so versatile as a cuisine, I loved the Bourdain episode of "A Cook's Tour" when he went down the Mekong Delta. I liked that place where they had the flying claypots of rice....that looked cool. I had a claypot the other week, it wasn't cracked though, they cooked chicken in it. damn, I'm going to have to hit up and explore this shit more.
I'm not from Oregon, but are there not a lot of Pho places in Oregon? I'm in SoCal, and my gf lives in Garden Grove/Westminster, which is where Little Saigon and pretty much anything and everything Vietnamese is at. If you wanna try something non-Pho, I love Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong. It's great with fish sauce that is spicy. If you guys come down here, theres a place called Brodards that make some of the best Nem Nuong I've ever eaten. So if yall come down, just let me know
That's actually where I was about 3 weeks ago....look familiar? I LOOOVE egg rolls that are dipped in that fish sauce...so bomb.
nah, I'm by LAX. I go to OC all the time though, I like to shop over at South Coast versus the LA Malls.
I live in Irvine, the Spectrum is pretty nice, granted not as big as South Coast. I guess I'm just fascinated by Spectrum, cause I'm originally from Pasadena/Chino Hills/Riverside and Las Vegas (I moved alot...as you can see). And I know that Chino didn't even have a movie theatre until I was in elementary school. Before that we had to drive to Diamond Bar to watch movies...
uggh, hate that Diamond bar /chino hills /pomona area...i was there for a birthday party today....dunno, just kind of depressing vibe...i hate areas not by the water in LA. Irvine is pretty cool. all strip malls though.
Irvine is a nice city. It has alot of asian people and stores (I'm chinese), so I don't have to drive to Rowland Heights for that. I live close to both the 5 and 405 freeways (right by the 133, so its easy to freeway hop to either freeway, or take toll road to 241/91 and visit my grandparents in Chino Hills off the 71). I'm a huge food guy, I love trying new things. Tomorrow night I'm going to one of my favorite places to go (expensive as fuck though, the cheaper ones are too far away), a Brazilian BBQ place by the John Wayne airport called Agora.
oh man, I love Brazillian BBQ..was going to go to Fogo De Chao last week but it fell through. that place is insane. Chinese food in Irvine isn't bad...Dim Sum! Isn't that new An Qui restaurant Vietnamese fusion? sounds horrible!
The New Capital at Diamond Jamboree off of 405 and Jamboree has some good Dim Sum, was there last Wednesday. Fuck, I'm hungry.
You gotta try New Capital. That whole Diamond Jamboree area is cool. They have an Ajisen Ramen (which a closer branch would be the San Gabriel one by the Hilton), a BDC Tofu House (Only like it cause its 24hrs, which means I can go somewhere not named Dennys!), Guppys (not a huge fan cause of the kids who go there, but they have shaved ice), a couple of bakeries, a Tokyo Table (expensive japanese food), and a Karaoke bar place upstairs (private rooms and everything). Close to the district too, if you prefer going to Lucilles BBQ. I'm now craving Roadhouse. I used to live near the Riverside one, but now the closest one is off Carson on the 605 in Long Beach. Need a 20oz Prime Rib.
