Former Blazers guard Jarrett Jack has started 33 consecutive games since December 8, averaging 12.3 points and 5.6 assists during these games. Jack scored 11 of his team-high 23 points during the Raptors’ fourth quarter rally Saturday vs. Washington. Jack has appeared in 260 consecutive games – a streak that began while he was with Portland Hope JJ lights us up, but we win!
JJ got the short shift. He was the guy that the people who wanted to see Sergio play lots of minutes ragged on. At this point, we would be lucky if JB turns out to be as good as JJ.
JJ was a baller but it seemed like everyone and their mom wanted him out for reasons that are beyond me. He is much better than Blake and would not be a bad starter for us right now. He gets to the rim and can knock down the jump shot.
It certainly would take some kind of miracle for Bayless to somehow stretch his scoring from 9.2 ppg to 10.7 ppg, and to go from 2 assists to 5 assist/game. Luckily, Jack plays 10 more mpg and is five years older, so there's always hope somewhere down the line that Bayless can achieve what is now clearly unimaginable. Bayless already does have a higher PER than Jack has ever had, so I feel like I can dare to dream.
JJ had the same problem his last year here that Blake had this year. The team brought someone else to challenge his starting position and he never recovered from it. It's funny that the "someone" else brought to disrupt JJ was Blake... He would have been a fantastic player off the bench for us now. A less explosive version of JB - but much, much more consistent.
