Suppose the Nets get the #1 pick. Suppose further that they crap out on any of the big free agents and find themselves with a very depleted roster. Obviously they're going to take John Wall. Who is a scoring PG. Like Devin Harris.

Would you want the Blazers to offer Martell, Rudy and Bayless for Devin Harris? (Of course, what NJ really needs is a killer PF. Okay, maybe they sign Chris Bosh, or some other PF in free agency.)

Or has Harris jumped the shark this year?

I'd be very interested. Good reason to hope the Nets get the #1 pick.

Absolutly, You need a PG of the Future and if it costs you (Martell, a lost player in the rotation, Rudy, a player who thinks they deserve a starting spot but will never play in front of Roy, and Bayless, a wannabe PG who is a marginal NBA SG) for a former all star

    That would be a steal

He's definitely is having a down year. His PER went from 22 to 16 and on a team that could go down as the worst team in history.

Dallas looks like they made the right trade. I thought that would be impossible when they made it. Harris doesn't seem like a true PG to me, and he can't shoot very well. Maybe the NBA has figured him out.

I've been thinking something similar, but under the opposite situation...

Suppose NJ DOES score Bron and another big name FA, yet still gets the #1 pick...It might be a bit absurd to suggest, but... would that possibly make Wall gettable? If so we could certainly put together a nice package of:

-Young potential stars in Bayless and Rudy
-Solid vets with large enough contracts to take back a bad one in Martell and Joel
-FREE prospects in Freeland, PK and Claver

An offer of all of the above, plus 2 1st round picks would be hard for ANY team to give up for Wall and a bad contract.

On the flipside, along with getting Wall, we have a MLE (Udonis Haslem) and BAE (Raja Bell) to use for a few solid vets and could still have Mr. Allen buy a few 2nd round picks and let KP try to find the next Dante Cunningham and resign Camby and Howard.

    Wall/Miller
    Roy/Bell
    Batum/Cunningham
    LMA/Haslem/Howard
    GO/Camby/Howard

Probably completely unrealistic to even consider, much moreso than trading for Harris, but from everything I've seen and read about Wall... Kid's gonna be special.

Either way I agree that NJ getting the 1st pick is good for us.

That is like us saying that we have Brandon and LaMarcus already so we should have traded Greg in 2007 for a bunch of guys who are all potential.:tsktsk:

I agree. Harris is not the type of player who can consistently take over games. Then again, that isn't what the Blazers would need him to do. He would just need to be a really good complimentary player....and he can certainly do that.

No thanks. Devin Harris is over-rated.

That whole team took a mental hit this year. There is no way they should have lost as many games as they did. Are you going to tell me that a roster with Devin Harris, Courtney Lee and Brook Lopez alone shouldn't win about 20 games? Half of the problem with the Nets is they haven't figure out who their horse is. Their horse is Lopez, but all the guards and forwards are in denial, and whenever they get the ball, they just play 1 on 1 basketball.

His team being bad seems like one potential reason his numbers are down. If teammates can't make shots that will not only drop his assist totals, it'll cause the opposing defense to key on him, dropping his scoring efficiency.

If Harris were made available, I'd definitely trade a package including both Bayless and Fernandez (though I'm not sure why they'd want two guards back with Wall being their draft pick). That would turn two players with varying degrees of potential into a good young point guard.

Don't trade for Harris, he's overrated. And in this case, the Nets don't have any power in the trade scenario here. You don't give them more than whats necessary.

If they say no, you tell them to spin on your mid digit. We don't need Harris, and he is horribly overrated by fans (esp certain Blazer fans who have also overrated Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter, Al Jefferson and countless other players who were elevated almost to superstar level by fans. Including some of our own players).

Why wouldn't the Nets keep him and start him at SG or have a quality 6th man?

Don't count the lottery balls too early. They're is no guarantee that NJ gets Wall.

I realize that. My post was using the hypothetical that began this thread: "Suppose the Nets get the #1 pick."
