Seriously though, this is ridiculous: http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindducksbeat/2010/03/oregon_football_the_rap_sheet.html
DE Matt Simms, Jr. Offense: Charged with assault, later reduced to harassment for fight in retaliation for Beard brawl on Jan. 23. Pleaded guilty on March 2. Legal: Got 40 hours of community service. Team: Dismissed on Feb. 3. Impact: Walk-on. No impact other than having available bodies at practice. lol...so he gets kicked off the team, and james only gets one game?
Really? I thought you went to a major university. It's the stuff that doesn't make the papers that would blow your mind. I'm actually surprised that the SAE house called the cops. They blew a nice payday.
Classy Beaver fan right? A NT is a pipe dream at best for any good team... which it remains for the talented Ducks. All they have to do is win 13 games in a row Given that the football players I've known in HS and beyond have been a mixed bag of characters (to put it politely) I was never under the delusion that all the UO players were angels... far from it. I'm all for throwing the book at guys who slip up yet can turn the page and look forward to seeing what Thomas can bring. Dude was a high profile dual threat QB recruit who everyone has compared to Dixon. I've read a lot of Duck fan opinions on this and just about no one seems to have much sympathy for JM if he indeed turned out to be guilty of this incredible stupidity. Redshirt or not, I have a hard time seeing how he'll be coming back to UO... here's guessing he transfers to Hawaii which might be the only place he can get a fresh start. LJ on the other hand seems to be getting the max punishment for some pretty benign offenses. Somehow I hope the club is able to weather the storm of facing NMexico without him. Maybe life will go on... STOMP
Mine is a pretty small school actually. I was just surprised at how many members of the team have rap sheets for themselves.
max punishment? He's sentenced to 10 days in jail, but only suspended 1 game. What ajoke. Punch another player, miss most the season, assault a woman and get jail time, you miss one game. Good job Chip. How pathetic. Great program they got going on down there. Love it.
wonderful of you to climb up on a high horse to pontificate out your ass Read the link provided earlier by SPD in this thread to educate yourself about his "assault" STOMP
So the 1080 the fan guys were right yesterday when they said his locker had been cleaned out.... All those people calling them liars etc. should eat crow, bitches
Remind me what her punishment is for instigating and (in your words) being as guilty of it as he was? I didn't say it wasn't (technically) assault, pretty benign stuff to froth at the mouth over though. Pathetic is those who'll run with this as if it's really something. Claiming that he got off light is laughable. Wild guess RR7... another Beaver fan? STOMP
one game is light. especially compared to what happened with blount. And no, your wild guess is wrong. Nice try though.
Not sure what that has to do with anything. From what the court papers said, she should've been punished but her lack of punishment doesn't vindicate him or alleviate him of wrong doing. He escalated it far more than what she did. And I'd bet he's slightly stronger than she is. So if she punched him first, but he tackled her and assaulted her does that mean he shouldn't get punished if she doesn't? For me, it doesn't matter if it's a Duck or a Beaver. Neither school is free from stupid behavior or criticism for stupid behavior.
Blount's acts were very violent and (though provoked) went after fans which is pretty much a cardinal sin for something as PR dependent as college football. I'm on record saying he deserved up to have his scholi completely yanked if the powers that be thought that it was appropriate. Besides not handling his personal love life as smoothly as he might, I don't see much wrong with LJ's behavior. Far from violent, the court account made it seem as if he met hysteria with relative restraint. He didn't try to hurt her even when she broke his personal property (necklace). Removing a hysterical person from one's property who is threatening a guest seems a reasonable action to me... calling the cops would have been better but I might well have done the same thing. comparing the two incidents is apples and soft peaches STOMP
RR7 come on man.. you know I dont hate you or anything.. but a USC fan calling out another program on ethics?
okay I'm out the door in 5 minutes but please explain as I couldn't disagree more. She showed up at his residence, threatened his guest, wouldn't leave when asked, broke his personal property, and stole his keys. I once tackled a guy who stole my wallet and then broke his nose when he didn't immediately didn't hand it back. A bleeding mess on the ground beneath me, I then grabbed it from his coat spit on him and left. Should I have been arrested for assault and stealing my wallet back? me too, but this is a weak example of stupid behavior... more like unfortunate behavior that I'm not sure the police should have been involved in. STOMP
If someone threatens your guest, close the door on them (as they did). I'm not sure if I'd condone physically removing someone, in this case I'd call a cop or if it's a girlfriend/whatever, someone who knew her and could handle it. I'm not going to get myself into a situation where I could get in trouble. It sounds like she was yelling and being a spastic person. Then broke his necklace and he even admits he got angry at this. Pushed her into his car (escalating). She stole his keys and he gave chase. They say he "grabbed" her waist and they fell, but I'm not sure how that could be anything but a tackle (of sorts). That's more than what she did. Did she take his keys and deserve to be knocked down? Probably. Although why his keys were still in the ignition. No one is free of guilt here, but it's not like he acted like a good Sam here. Not entirely the same (although I see your point). This wasn't a stranger, this was someone he knew. yes, she was at his residence (or whatever) and was bothering his guest. But it seems to be kind of a slippery slope here, since you could then argue that a man should be able to break his girlfriends nose because she took something from him. She's guilty of being a Jerry Springer fan, and he's guilty of being an idiot. It'll be really nice when we can have threads about winning and losing.
