There are two new matchups today...

    1981-82 v. 1972-73
    VOTE

    2007-08 v. 1973-74
    VOTE

Should be two blowouts, but always fun to see why people vote the way they do.

This is the last of the qualifying rounds.
    Today's battles include:

Personally, I'm rolling with 88-89 and 76-77. Today should be the last day of blowouts and we get into some good ones tomorrow.
Champs are easily defeating a Sheed-less 04 team. Seriously, who guards Mo and Walton?
    89 probably routes 06 by 50.

The matchups start to get a little more dicier today...

    1989-90 vs. 2007-08
    VOTE

    2001-02 vs. 2002-03
    VOTE

89-90 for me. Even though the 08 team was deeper and Roy v. Clyde would be fun to watch, Porter would eat Blake alive, Buck would do yeoman's works on Aldridge, and 90 would control the tempo and eventually run them out of the gym.

03 would win, but it is a little closer. The teams were very similar, but Sabas was not on the 02 team and returned for the 03 team and we saw how vital he is. Pip also ran the show in 03 over Mighty Mouse which turned out to be a genius move. Finally, we saw Z-Bo emerge in the Dallas series as a legit 20-10 guy night in and night out.

Only one matchup on the docket today:

    1983-84 vs. 2000-01
    VOTE

I went with 84 just because 01 was full of a bunch of nut cases and would probably fight with each other mid-way through the 2nd quarter. I know 84 choked against the Suns in the playoffs as the 3 seed, but have you ever seen a fall from grace as bad as the 01 Blazers. From 1st to 7th in like 20 games? Good Lord.

Starting now to get into some better matchups:
    2008-09 vs. 1980-81
    VOTE

    1984-85 vs. 1978-79
    VOTE

I went with 08-09. They were so hot to end the season. I mean 19-6 over the last 25. We had size, speed, and athleticism. Who really on the 81 team could handle Roy?

The other battle was a little bit harder, but with Bill Walton out with the ankle injury, you can't really pick 79. Bowie actually was 3rd in the league in blocks his rookie year and could help the 85 team down low defensively. Also, I can't vote against a team with Clyde and Mercy on the squad!

Who do you think would take these?

I absolutely loved both of the late 90's teams and that they were each two separate instances away from winning back to back titles. The Memorial Day Miracle shot by Sean Elliot took the wind out of our sails against the Spurs and we were 12 mins away from going to the Finals the next year.

To start the week off, it looks like the makings of two blowouts..never the less...

    1990-91 vs. 1975-76
    VOTE

    1991-92 vs. 1974-75
    VOTE

Personally, the early 90's teams are my childhood and I don't see anyway I'm voting against either unless they match up in the Finals. Those teams were just so good and would route either of these 70's teams. If only Adleman had knew how to coach the half-court offense like he did when he was with the Kings, I don't even think it would have been a question we would have had a 3 peat.

I'm not even sure who I think should win. Both the late 90's teams were almost carbon copies of one another and do you go with Drexler lead team before or after they hit their prime?

Down to our last week of 1st round matchups:

    ALL-TIME BRACKET

I went with 93 because the 95 team dealt Clyde and got absolutely shafted in that deal as Kersey, Porter, and Buck were much better in 93 than in 95.

88 easily beats 96, because they won 53 games and were set up for those great early 90's runs.

We've got a few old timers on here. So, just how dominant was that 78 team? Were we looking at the next NBA dynasty that happened to get hampered with injuries? If they stayed healthy, how far into the 80's could they have gone being an elite squad?

    1999-00 vs. 1984-85

I went with 77, but it would be close. That 03 team had matchup problems all over the court and our bigs could give Walton and Lucas fits, but the champs are the champs.

2000 team, hands down. The depth on that team was sick. If only we had played Jermaine sooner..

Another 3rd round, which includes the best and hardest match to predict in my opinion:

    1989-90 vs. 1983-84
    VOTE
    1998-99 vs. 2008-09
    VOTE

I went with 90 easily, but the other one was the most difficult one to predict. Ultimately I went with the experience and toughness of 99 over 09. The Rockets gave 09 hell with scrappy play and rebounding and I believe Sheed, Sabas, and Rasta would have been a nightmare to deal with. Also, they made it to the WCF, whereas 09 didn't really sniff the 2nd round.

3rd matchup of the 3rd round, getting close to the photo finish

    Today we have...

    92-93 vs. 82-83

91 is a shoe in pick, but I wasn't alive to see the 83 team play and the 93 team was so injured it was like we are living through it again this year. For those of you old enough to remember the 83 team ,could they handle an aging, injured 93 team that still managed the 4th seed out West?

Today is the last of the Sweet 16 matchups and the winners advance to the Elite 8.

I went with 92 easily, but the other match is tougher to dissect. Do you assume it is a healthy 78 team or do they play without Bill Walton since he went out for the entire season? Just how good was that 78 team..were they even better than the 77 title winning team?

The 91 team keeps getting favorable matchups and I'll take them against their older 93 selves in a heartbeat. The 77 vs. 00 hypothetical game is by far the best one to date in the tournament. I slightly went with 1977 because of the intangibles they had. The 2000 team folded in the face of adversity. Sheed and Grant vs. Lucas would have been a helluva battle though.

Someway, somehow, the champs are out of the bracket, defeated 71-29 by 1999-00. Along with 00, the 91 team made the Final Four as well.

Up next our the last two Elite 8 matches.

90 wins hands down. The 99 team has no one able to carry their team. They were a team filled with a bunch of good, overachieving players, but I would put 3-4 members of the 90 starting 5 up against the top player from 99.

The other one was a little more difficult but went with 92 due to my bias towards the Drexler years and I rewarded them for making the Finals and pushing one of the best Bulls teams to 6 games.

Agree with that. Let's also not forget that the 99 season was strike-shortened, and the Blazers had an advantage over other teams in the simple fact that the Blazer players continued to practice together during the lockout, while other teams did not.

Having seen both teams play, there's no question in my mind that the 77-78 team (pre-injuries) was one of the best teams in the history of the league, let alone in Blazer history. The 92 team was very good, but in the end, they still had no answer for Jordan.
