An interesting thought. Exactly how many Republicans voted for the health care bill again? Now, how many Democrats voted against it? I think the divide is wider on the left side of the spectrum than it is on the right.
Well that was before it passed, now they have zero power. The leadership said vote with us, we will beat this. They were wrong. Now according to several sources of remorse over not negotiating at all. Now it is a total loss, a major defeat. The polls are now showing people are happy that the bill has passed, 50% of indys in fact. That November hope for the pubs got a little dimmer when the bill passed. Now they are forced to run against actual laws that most people will like. I think the idea of telling voters that you want to take away the lift on the lifetime cap, insuring their children to 27, and removing the doughnut whole is going to be tough.
The Constitution was set up to ensure the tyrrany of the majority was not permanent. The opposition to this bill is only beginning. Nope. Given the majorities in both houses of Congress as well as the White House, there was never any hope of defeating it, only minimizing its damage. I wonder how you feel about the will of the people of Massachusetts who voted specifically against this bill, yet never were given the opportunity to have their duly elected senator to vote on it, while FIVE appointed senators (Kirk, Gillebrand, Bennet, Kaufman and Burris) who were never elected were allowed to vote in favor of the legislation. Does that sound like a representative democracy to you? I've read one "[source] of remorse". If there's remorse, it's on the Democratic side of the aisle, who regret what the pushing through of the process will do to the Republic as well as the party. Check this piece for example: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/11/AR2010031102904.html It was a total loss and a major defeat...for the American people. Luckily, it was a battle and not the war. November will be an opportunity to have a referendum on the health care bill. The results in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts don't bode for nationalized health care's future. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/03/obama-healthcare-pelosi-reid-polls.html http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...ove-of-obama-for-first-time/?fbid=q3wxT235CLa http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub...pport_state_lawsuits_against_health_care_plan http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub.../healthcare/september_2009/health_care_reform http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub...ministration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/obama_and_democrats_health_care_plan-1130.html Wow. It's not even close. And I think having an actual bill to specifically pick apart will be a benefit for the opponents of this bill. Note I don't say it's "health care", because demonstrably it's not. Remember, when you support this thing, you support all of it. The Cornhusker Kickback, the Lousiana Purchase, Gator-Aid, $100MM Connecticut Hospital, all of it. Do you support payoffs for votes? As for the popular portions of the bill, I never said the entire bill was terrible, just the vast majority of it. Remember, the opponents of this bill acknowledged there were parts of our health care system that needed to be fixed, but that we should keep the good parts and throw out the bad parts. But the Democrats decided they were going to load this thing up with all the crap they could. Now, everyone will have to live with the consequences--fewer health care professionals, higher premiums, higher taxes, less choice and less coverage. You tell me how that works for you.
Here's the backstory: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-03-26/inside-david-frums-bitter-exit/
I guess that's a backstory, but it doesn't seem like a relevant one. Who cares whether Frum was fired or quit? barfo
Interesting. Seems to me the people of Massachusetts were voting for a senator, not "specifically against this bill". barfo
Denial is more than a river in Egypt. When a candidate runs primarily on being the 41st vote against health care and wins, well, it doesn't take James Carville to figure out what the election was about.
http://www.mediaite.com/online/david-frum-says-he-was-fired-for-writing-his-waterloo-column/ Did Frum just get fired for these comments? Wow, that shows the the right does not let people think for themselves whatsoever. Fucked up shit. Frum seems to think he got fired for his waterloo comments.
