No joke, I will give Marty his props. He has been at the arena for 20 minutes shooting jumpers with shooting coach John Townsend! He showed up at 2:30 on a game day. He must realize he needs some practice. Good for him.

Nobody is going to do well in limited minutes. Especially a spot up 3 pt. shooter. I just want him to come in and play solid defense and rebound. Everything else is a bonus. It pisses me off because we've all seen what he can do given the opportunity. Trade the poor guy and let him have a successful career elsewhere.

do you know if he's working on other parts of his game? Concentrating mostly on shooting won't do him any good, because that's a lot of his problem. If he's not hitting outside shots, the rest of his game suffers. He should concentrate on dribbling and creating a shot off of the dribble.

It's just not a great situation. We saw what he could do with extended minutes for a month in January averaging almost 20ppg (think it was January). He's not going to get half those minutes playing behind Batum and with Rudy still here. Factor in Cunningham at SF and Bayless getting time at SG and it's just not a good spot for him.

Webster just looks embarrassingly bad out there right now. When he puts up a shot--any shot--I fully expect him to miss. So far, he hasn't disappointed me. He looks completely lost on the floor, and seems to have no idea how to get anything going. I'm not quite sure I've ever seen anyone play as badly as he has the last two games . . .

Nobody? All the great teams have had role playing three point shooters who helped their team in limited minutes. If he can't hit shots because he's not playing 40+ minutes, then we need to replace him. On that note, I just looked at the list of the Top 50 three point shooters in the league and no one from our team is on it. That's not good. Batum (44%) doesn't qualify because of small sample size. Hopefully, he stays consistent for us. No one else is there though. Not Webster. Not Roy. Not Rudy. Not Bayless. Blake is there though. Outlaw doesn't qualify but he's shooting 39%.

We need him to get it together and make it happen in limited minutes. I don't expect 15 points out of him. Just make a couple open shots, please.

From the time that Martell has gotten here he has seemed to be all about confidence. When he has it, he looks pretty darn good, but when he doesn't have it he looks lost, confused, despondent, depressed, and downright bad. Part of me says as he goes on he will mature, but the other side says the magnitude of his swings points to him always having this problem.

Limited minutes or not, he still makes some good defensive plays each game. For those of you who know more about the game than just stats, it's plain that shooting is about the only aspect og his game that's suffering.

QFT! I'm not sure why this doesn't get brought up more often during the Webster bashing.

I think that's the worst part for me--seeing that he can make some good defensive plays, and then seeing terrible defensive lapses or just getting outright abused on other defensive possessions. If he played consistently solid defense, then I wouldn't mind his offensive ineptitude so much.

We'll disgree on that as ALL players in the NBA get torched during a game. But as far as our defenders go, Webster is probably #3 or 4 on the team. But he is in a funk therwise. He just doesn't seem to be there.

Unless I could package him in a nice trade to pick up someone we really need, I see him as our #2 or 3 backup at both SF & SG. And that hurts as I was a mega Webster backer all along.

I disagree. I think his confidence is at an all-time low, and it's affecting every part of his game. He's not rebounding like he used to, and he got burned so badly by Durant on one play last night that I think I saw his uniform smoking.

He makes defensive plays, yes, and I'm not going to single out the two plays he got burned by Durrant last night, because I did notice he played good defense after that, but as was just mentioned, he's not playing aggressively on defense right now. When was the last time you saw him swoop in for a big block? He's not as focused on D in general. Last night was an exception, and it was because he was guarding the second best scorer in the game right now and new he had to bring his shit.

Which is ultimately the most frustrating thing. I know he can be good. I sooo want him to be a great player for us because he's a nice guy and has a lot of talent, but he doesn't focus all the time.

Unfortunately I don't think Batum is immune to this either on the offensive end (though he's also younger) but he just always seems to be in on the play. Offensive or defensive end, he'll weak side rebound, get his hands in for steals, and challenge shots. His head is just almost always in the game.

With Nicolas shooting performances (though not as much as of late) I just think Batum will be the better player, so I'm left hoping that Webster can be a microwave.

Dante Cunningham does. Averaging 11 minutes/game, and a 14 PER (2 higher than Webster's career high). And you can't argue that Webster makes up for it on defense, because Cunningham is every bit the defender Webster is.

I wish I understood why we're carving out any minutes at all for Webster. He just doesn't look that good out there. His defense is good at times, but abysmal at other times.

The major argument on the offensive end is his three point shooting. He hasn't made a three pointer in 8 games. He's made 6 of them in the past 16 games. Does anybody really expect him to have fully turned this around and become a force under playoff pressure?

I think the major reason he hasn't been benched for Cunningham long ago is that he's a pretty dominant personality in the locker room. The coach doesn't want to disrupt chemistry while things are going well.

Which I guess I can get behind. Especially because Cunningham seems to perform no matter how you use him. If Webster continues to choke in the playoffs, I can easily see McMillan going to Cunningham, and Dante not missing a beat.
