Funny thing. Back in "the day" my buddies an I would walk in there following yet another Pacers football victory...order a pizza to go, then proceed to put a number of quarters in that juke box and push Don Ho's Tiny Bubbles, like 10 times, then walk out before it started playing.
hahahaha THAT IS AWESOME! Were either of you guys one of those awful black and white photos hanging by the gym?
Here's an up close and personal look at "The Special" from Stanich's! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30288170&id=1105064218
Surprised no comments on this place. Discovered this by accident a long time ago. Only get back there every couple of years or so, but I'm always surprised at how good it is.
Helvetia Tavern in Hillsboro. I haven't had a burger there in like 10-12 years but when I worked close I went quite often. They had great Burgers and fries but not sure if they are still that good. It is off the beaten path and a little hard to find.
Went to The Ram (Clackamas TC) last evening. Had the bacon cheeseburger. I wasn't too impressed. I went to Helvetia a while back. While the burger was very tasty, I REALLY enjoyed the fries!
Curious. We have very different tastes in fries. I go there a lot, love the burgers, but the fries are limp and oily. Not my cup of tea. barfo
I'm not sure it's wise to take food advice from a guy who calls himself "barfo", but then perhaps that speaks of experience. My son swears that the Lighthouse burger from Lighthouse Inn in Linton is the best he's tried. No personal experience, so take it for what it's worth.
I asked for a "fresh batch". Crisp and delish......... Note: Fries are always best when ordered during non-rush times. The oil temperatures are generally higher....meaning less oily products.
Oh. Well, crap, I've been ordering the week-old fries. I guess that wasn't such a good idea, but getting a nickel off was pretty attractive. barfo
