The reaction to this chant is actually depressing to me. It's kinda sad how excited we are over a chant...

Don't get me wrong, it was fucking awesome in context ...

But we're so used to horrible music, sound effects, commercials etc anytime there's even 1 second of silence at sporting events, we lose our shit anytime a true fan reaction happens.

I wish stuff like last night wasn't "awesome" but more common place. I think it would be if they'd let us have some space instead of smashing us over the head with movie trailers during time outs.

I gotta say you have a point. My fiancee made another good observation about that too: "I'm glad they've figured out not to do a bunch of stupid shit in the 4th quarter during time outs... remember the first home playoff game last year? It was ridiculous! But Game 5 was better."

I don't. Soon, chanting names will become a cliche in Portland. After that, we'll become caricatures of ourselves. Kind of like Kramer rushing into Jerry's apartment. Great the first few times, a few chuckles mixed with forced laughter the next 20, and canned laughter, golf claps, and a few random coughs after seeing it a hundred times.

Sport is the best reality TV/performance one can witness. Moments like last night were spontaneous. That's what makes it both noteworthy and memorable. These are our gladiators. Let them amaze us, and when they do, let us ROAR!

That is so true and a point I try to make with a friend of mine and he couldn't see it. Some of the road games I couldn't believe that the loud speaker was chanting and stuff instead of the audience.

Are you talking on tv or at the RG? Usually during runs when there is a time out the crowd is up and dancing/clapping to the music. Now during a reg time out when there hasn't been a run or something they shoot Tees and stuff, but I'm not sure of your point. That's the first time I've seen us chant a name like that, but that doesn't mean the crowd doesn't get excited during TOs. I think it was just that type of celebrating that was unique, not fans celebrating.

I've had season tix for 3 years now. It's not uncommon for the RG faithful to chant without being prompted. Chanting a players name like last night is a little different, but other chants are not uncommon.

Camby was just on the FAN and asked about what that chat meant to him and he said it means a lot, that you always want to play where you are wanted and that the chant is one of the things that make him want to end his career here.

I'm not saying we should chant someones name every night for goodness sakes.

This is a general sports post regarding the atmosphere in all 4 major sports.

Not just about Portland or last night.
