is there any reason that after pheonix put grant hill on andre miller, that portland (nate) didn't counter by going with a big lineup and having batum/martell, or somebody post up steve nash until they were forced to make a change? keeping rudy in there was perfect for nash cause he didn't have to move on defense, he never had to worry about picking up fouls, and going back on defense, portland would have to cross up on d to find their man leaving guys wide open
i guess thats where we really miss b.roy. if he was still playing, pheonix couldn't put nash on him, and would have been forced to keep him on miller. but the thought still remains, why not change it up and make nash guard somebody
The only reason I think that that wasn't done, is that goes away from Martels and Nic's strengths. Neither has spent anytime I can remember with their back to the basket (posting up). It would be hard to all of a sudden throw them in and expect for that to b e a productive part of their offensive game. I mentioned a few days ago, that I think the move is to have Jerryd start for Rudy, and I still think that should be the case. He can just put so much more pressure on the interior of Phoenix's defense, and can beat Nash of the dribble any day of the week.
Another reason might simply be that Nate gambled that Rudy would bust out at home, and that to bench him would shatter that fragile ego irreparably. But conversely, his man exploding for 42 might not have helped him much...
