The USL was being sold and there was a group of stronger teams that were hoping they would sell the league ownership to a Nike led group. The league ended up with some other group so six teams (now the NASL left). The remaining six teams stayed with the USL. Both leagues applied for recognition as the second division of the United States, but neither was approved because they didn't have enough teams. Rather than cancel the seasons, the USSF created a league that merged the two subgroups.

More info on structure in the D2 thread I started here.

Sorry, but to clarify, the renegade NASL Teams wanted to buy the USL from Nike/Umbro and even put in the highest bid. Nike/Umbro sold the league to a guy who was a former college friend of one of the head USL guys. In the deal Nike gets to divests itself from running a minor league soccer league but still gets to use the USL (hundreds of teams) to spread it's brand. The highest bidder was Jeff Cooper AKA the guy trying to bring a MLS team to St. Louis. Dudes been scorned twice.

There are two divisions of 6 teams, the USL conference and the NASL conference. 9 of the 12 USSF Second Div teams are NASL. The 3 NASL teams that are still in the USL division of the USSF 2nd div, are the ones who were still contractually obligated to play in USL this season, but have shown there preference for the vision of the NASL guys. The NASL teams want league run by the teams. USL is a league that teams purchase a license or membership to play in and most of the decisions are made by the league office. I really don't know who's in the right here, but the NASL and USL have been acting like bitches throughout this whole fiasco, even refusing to provide links to the other leagues teams on there own websites even though they with are both competing in the same league this season.

Saint Louis had to start heir inaugural match with 10 men cause they messed some paper work. I hope both leagues succeed and flourish but they need to stop acting like children first.

    Basically a cluster fuck.

The actual Army can somewhat be like that too. I had my 15 year old brothers with me last year at a game. And My brother had one of those horns and couldnt hit it at a high pitch. People proceeded to try and talk Sh*t to a 15 year old kid, real cool. I was able to get them to back off.. but who does that.

The sound can get really annoying when people get carried away with them. There is even a facebook page (that I joined:lol:) dedicated to getting them banned. Your bro shoulda smacked the guy up side his head with that shit, though!

Yeah, those things really annoy me, but can add a good atmosphere, I guess. Did your brother chug any beers with them? ;)

yeah it was one of those and yellow. I agree they can get annoying but to talk crap to a kid? ITs a friggin kid. And with these guys they werent annoyed with it. Cause he was like "Let me try that and I'll show you noob kids how to use this!" They sounded kinda cool last summer when watching games from South Africa. Sounded like a swarm of bees lol.

You hear them at national team matches like a mother fucker :NOTMARIS:

I don't really think they should be banned, but if the team shop stopped selling them I'd be happy.

Finding someone to buy MLS tickets will be easy. Just let me know and we could probably work somthing out.

"Got any extra tickets? I got tickets!" I love when scalpers get into fights with each other :)
