I am satisfied with the ending. Not a lot of questions were answered though! A lot of loose ends left out there for debate. Still trying to figure it all out. They all died and this whole sideways world this season is a so called Heaven? I'm trying to figure out when these people all died though. And I think Ben was the Devil, not allowed into this "heaven".

The people who died on the island actually died when they died, and the people who got off ended up dying when it was their time in their own future. The flash-sideways weren't really in any specific time, it was just their own purgatory they created where they could all meet up and move on together if they were ready to do so (aka figured out their issues/accepted their deaths). People like Ben weren't ready to move on because they still had unfinished business they needed to sort with themselves before they could move on from purgatory. As it was alluded to in several instances through-out the season, some of them weren't ready to "let go" - even in the afterlife, which is fine.

But what happened on The Island happened - the flash-sideways ending up being purgatory doesn't negate what happened in "real life".

I still don't get the following:

    Who is MIB and Jacob?
    What is the light?
What was the point of making the Dharma Initiative so important in season 2-3?
What the fuck is the island? It's not purgatory. It's just a mindfuck island.
Why are were pregnant women dying as mentioned in season 1 or 2?
What was the point of having season 1-3 only to change the series completely around in season 3-6?

It's like they forgot about the first 3 seasons and decided to change the series around for difficult and uneventful ending.

It was almost perfect for me. I loved the first season liked season 2 and 3, 4 was ok and hated 5. It was the best finale I have ever seen. Of coarse I hardly ever like series finale.

    who made the purgatory?
why are there arbitrary rules there?
why does it resemble their lives but with odd arbitrary irrelevant differences?
why does eloise not want desmond to help people move on?
why is on-island desmond aware of purgatory if it's after he's dead?
why does he think unplugging the island's bung hole will help him move on there?

The real ending is a cast party at HCP's house when he's on the road.

I think the finale was really cool. Honestly almost got me to cry when everyone were getting memories back. The way i see it is everyone died when the plane crash happened from the very beginning but their "souls" continued living and the whole island was a test to where they end up in the end. For example Jack passed the test so now he goes to heaven or whatever you want to call the light. That's why Ben didn't end up going into the church or whatever that was at the end. Everything else is just a story and was basically meaningless. Like there aren't answers to certain things it was just part of the test or story. Honestly i wish it ended differently but I think the ending was still good. Kinda sucks that their all dead though

The show required a leap pf faith (ha!) And a real willingness to suspend disbelief. Here's my take:

Who is MIB and Jacob? The island is the light of the world, and keeps evil at bay. To protect it makes you extraordinary. Jack got the same treatment, then Hurley.

What was the point of making the Dharma Initiative so important in season 2-3?:
People/Humans can find the island. The light gives off electromagnetism which men want to harness for their own bad (Whitmore), or good (Dharma).

What the fuck is the island? It's not purgatory. It's just a mindfuck island.: It is the center - of humanity, goodness?

Why are were pregnant women dying as mentioned in season 1 or 2?: I think because the bomb exploded and the radiation caused them to be infertile.

What was the point of having season 1-3 only to change the series completely around in season 3-6?: In the end, the "protector" protects the island. Seasons 1 -3 showed the latest threat to the island. But there were others before - remember when MIB was young and they built the wells and donkey wheel?

The island was the center of light and needed protection - from various threats. To quote George Costanza - "That's the show!"

    From EW:

"If there was one thing we can probably all agree upon, in the end, Jack Shephard was a Christ figure whose sacrifice saved many other people. The imagery could not have been more specific: Jack’s questioning and obeying of his father; his leadership of a small group of disciples; his final ascension (in TV terms, in a glowing white light). Even the piercing of his side by Locke/Man In Black was in the part of his body where Christ was speared while in agony on the crucifying cross."

and yet almost everything else with religious overtones in the finale was decidedly eastern - mostly resembling hindu.

What show were you watching? Clearly it was an adult re-telling of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The island was the chocolate factory, the smoke monster was a giant pissed off oompa loompa and everyone died from e-coli poisoning in the chocolate.

But what about the most important question: Did Gilligan ever break him a piece off of Maryanne?

The writers did a good job of raising questions only to fail answering most of them. I know they wanted it to be left up for interpretation, but some things you should explain instead of leaving it for the imagination. Huge cop out.

Have you ever had a tv show that really had a great series finale?
