250, or so......(on Amazon and Half.com) to help defray the costs on a trip to Hawaii my wife and I are taking in September.

    So far, so good. :)

I have burned all of the music to iTunes. I've heard that's it's illegal to do this (that is, re-sell the same music I have on my laptop.)

What are your feelings on this?

I have purchased the same album and CD so many times, it makes me feel like a sucker. I think Pete Townshend can live without another set of royalties from me if I choose to burn "Who's Next".

My dad willed me his albums; I actually prefer the sound of my turntable to my CD player.

I did the same thing, and I continue to whittle away at my physical media collection. I do it about once a year-- selling any movies or cds I haven't used in the past year.

The RIAA is clinging to a dead business model in hopes that WE will change for them, rather than the other way around. They should have led the way with music streaming, downloading, etc. but instead continue to fight against it. The fact that most artists only saw a tiny fraction of the actual record sales disgusts me and makes me feel much less guilty about doing the above. Especially when I buy concert tickets and merch at said concerts (where artists REALLY make their money nowadays).

I threw away all my liners for DVDs and CDs, they're all in those leather binders. I never watch them really...netflix is so much better.

I am slowly downloading EVERY DVD I have. I easily have over 1500 DVD's and same for CD's. Every CD I own is in my iTunes. I may do the same thing ABM.

I have a Roberta Flack cd that I probably bought for a few bucks. Anyway, can't believe it's going for over $30! Didn't realize it was such a collector's item.

I should do that. One thing to do, is put all your CD's on a DVD (or however many it takes) so that way if you lose your media that you have them currently on (Ipod, computer), you don't have to start from scratch.

Even putting them on an external HD isn't enough, imho.

I should sell my CD's once i do that, but I only have like 100 or so. I'm like Maxie, why should I keep buying the same CD's over and over? Especially when they're still horribly over-priced and sometimes have 1 song worth it on them.

CD's are a dying genre. Flashdrives, ipods, and stereos with memory are the easiest way to do it now.

I just bought some double layer DVD's and I think I have maybe 6 movies that are too big for regular DVD's...and once those are done transferring...er..I mean, I'm done watching them..yeah, that's it...watching them...I don't know what I'll do with the rest. Just like the 50+ blank DVD's I have, and the probably 75+ blank CD's I have.

Great idea! In my selling process, I've realized that not all of my music had been burned to my HD. (BTW, I just purchased a 500gb external HD from Dell for $54 delivered.) Once I complete this process, I'll go ahead and drag my entire music library to a dvd(s).

external HD's are nice. I have a terabyte right now, and once they get down under 50 bucks I'm going to buy a few more. Of course, I have so much crap on mine right now, I really should siphon through it and get rid of the crap I don't need on it.
