I was just curious. If we were to trade Odom, Vujacic and sign and trade Brown to Philadelphia for Elton Brand and the 2nd pick (pick up Evan Turner), then waive Brand, would this help us out financially? I was discussing this possibility with a friend, and we had no clue. We do know that the deal works financially though, but were just wondering if it would cut costs a little bit. Once this is answered, mods could close this thread. Strictly asking out of curiousity.
The answer is no because Brand has this remaining on his current deal. When you waive a player their salary still counts against your cap space. $16,400,000 $17,531,000 $18,662,100
How do you even come up with his? Philly is going to give that up for an inconsistant semi-bum, a legit bum, and a chucker, even if they want to shop Brand and the pick? Pass me that shit you're smoking :]
Nah it was hypothetical. We were kinda wondering how Washington got away with waiving Big Z and calling it a financial move (now I see he only makes $600K a year and is not under contract next year, so his contract is off the books for Washington). Nahh. I'd have to charge you to take a hit of this shit
I also thought PHI would be stingier with the pick. But I asked this question today on the TrueHoop chat: Now, Odom would be tough to include b/c iirc he just signed a big extension, right? PHI would want expirings and cash saved. I don't know LAL's financials as well as I do Portland's, so I don't know. But if you can come up with 15M or so in expiring contracts, you might have a shot.
