Re: WEC 49 - Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) An uninspired main event to say the least... dunno why Dominic Cruz isn't defending on this card. I guess the fallout of doing 2-3 PPV events every year is now the WEC will put the stacked cards on PPV and the ones in between will be much weaker than before.
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) Long time WEC ring announcer Joe Martinez has left the company to work for Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. Bruce Buffer will be taking over announcing duties. Kenny Florian and Todd Harris will be doing the play-by-play.
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) Ed Ratcliff out--WEC looking for a replacement. Know anybody?
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) The Main event not be the greatest, but I still think it's a decent main event with good title implications. I would think the winner of Varner/Shalorus would get the next crack at Ben Henderson, just as I think both would have a much better shot at beating Henderson than Cerrone has at every doing it. Just as the Grispi/Davis fight should have some title implications behind it. I would think the winner should be set up nicely for a future title shot, or at the very least should be just one win away from a title fight. I'm a big Grispi fan, he's my favorite in the WEC these days, so I'm excited to finally see him fight again. I'm hoping Darabedyan's fight can make it to the main card, but I don't know if he can knock people out like that to get it there.
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) Don't forget about this show tonight, kids. The WEC usually puts on solid entertainment.
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) That body shot that Wineland landed was fucking incredible.
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) With all due respect to Zombie/Garcia, that Hominick vs Jabouin fight is fight of the year in my book right now. Back and forth, action packed, and just amazing. Great, great fight. -That was the worst decision I have ever seen. How in the world do they figure that was a tie, especially with the point taken away. Varner easily won the first two rounds, that second round should have been a 10-8 round after the point deduction. Holly cow, I'm not one to outright complain about judges decisions, but this time I'm gonna. Especially since this isn't the world cup, what kind of fights end with a tie?
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) ^ TBH I think a lot more fight should end in draws. Frankly some rounds are close enough that they should be 10-10 but judges feel pressure to tilt them one way or the other. How many times have we seen fights where there is a judge who thinks it is 30-27 and another thinks it is 27-30? But this was not one of those fights. Round one was close, rounds two and three weren't. 29-27 Varner IMHO. BUT I HATE THAT GUY, LOL! I really can't stand Varner and his drama, time-out nonsense, his excuses, his bragging, and his complaining. I was laughing pretty hard when it came down to Cecil Peoples' score card knowing that it was going to be a bad decision. If Shalorus hadn't lost that point he would've won the fight! Crazy. Hominick/Jabouin was awesome. They went full out. Grispi's striking is so-so but he is still a contender. Wineland/Campuzano was also a great fight.

Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) Also, I'm just not sold on Horodecki. Obviously he is skilled but I don't think he can hang with the best in the lightweight division of the WEC. Downes was way out of shape.
Re: WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus (Jun. 20th) I guess I can agree with wanting more fights to end in draws. Might give fighters more of a reason to try to end fights, rather than just try to ride out decisions, which would be more interesting. It would also mean fights like the Couture/Vera and other fights of this nature would be more interesting probably. I'm probably just a bit against ties, because all week I have been watching them, but I do think your right in wanting to see more ties issued. I also agree, I'm not a big Varner fan either. I know getting kicked in the nuts hurts, but no one else reacts the way he does to the kicks. I still don't think that Varner lost this fight either though. I think he won the first round by account of landing the punch that came closest to ending the fight, and landing the crisper strikes. Round two I think was even more decisive, and after the point, could have easily been a 10-8 round. Overall though, was a solid fight, and solid night. This doesn't ruin what I think has been one of the better cards this year.
Yeah the WEC is reliable. Also I made a mistake--I scored the third round for Shalrous, not the first.
