The problem with the USA is that soccer is the #1 sport like pretty much every other country in the world. Our great athletes play football, basketball, and even baseball before soccer. Could you imagine if guys like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Chris Johnson, etc. played soccer? United States will never become successful unless they start snatching players from other countries similar to European countries and add them to their few good players.

That was the first thing that came to my mind, I actually started cheering after I was over the disappointment of a missed opportunity to score.

Good game by the U.S. after halftime. Tim Howard's effort on the 2 goals given up wasn't as spectacular as I would hope after seeing him against England, but his defense left him out to dry on those. The referee was horrible all game, and that last goal he erased was just ridiculous. He had no angle on anything, and couldn't even say what he called. Like really? Let it be known, everyone hates Americans!

I wouldn't discount Algeria either to be fair.

That's what I'm say too, they need to build talent early on and keep investing money, you cannot allow someone to get out of your eyesight, and then think they'll come back from college all ready to play professional football.

fine. you can say the whole midfield is good if it makes you happy. but the reason is donovan and dempsey. both have proven themselves to be high level players in the epl and for the national team.

Algeria have a decent team which is why I see England struggling.

if you read the recentish article on espn.com talking about the mls youth academies, it sounds like the US is starting to do a better job of developing young talent.

Great news for the US, but they better keep their hands off of English talent! ;)

But you don't have these Rooney stories where the kids in the ghetto play soccer and go from rags to riches. Most of the time, if you are in the hood, you are playing hoops in Rucker Park or Sandlot baseball/football. We aren't Brazil where they put a soccer ball at the babies feet as soon as he can walk. It just isn't going to happen here in the United States for soccer.

Jack Wilshere also has that sort of story. Hopefully he makes it big, looks promising.

M Two One, have you been watching Wilshere at all?

Wouldn't it be something to see England tie or lose against Algeria? The English Press would butcher this team....

thats good to hear man. :)

I agree, but they have to start somewhere, I'm talking more about club level where there needs to be huge investments, get guys early early age, and keep investing in them, of course if they show any talent, not just anybody who can walk. lol

right now if you play football in highschool and you finish it, you might play in college and then there's nothing else, plus the level of college football below average IMO, and yeah interest has a lot to do with it, plus you have basketball and american football (even baseball) being the top sports. (and favorite past time for millions of americans)

If England won the World Cup, the press would still rip the England squad.
