Link It's a short blurb, but interesting nonetheless. I find it interesting that while we remain (relatively) successful on the court, the organization quickly seems to be reverting to a laughing stock.
OK here is my theory for the night: KP's reputation around the league got him into trouble and many other GMs were becoming a little put off by the boy genius pritchslapping the leauge and KP sucking up all the glory. So PA decided to make it easier for KP to manuver by letting the league know KP was likely to get fired thereby knocking KP down a level and other GMs now feeling he is one of the club (constantly being on the hotesat). KP no longer the golden child, other GMs now willing to talk to him (misery loves company) and presto golden boy gets Chris Paul. Yes I know I should put the whole post in green, but it's pre-draft night and if Mike is going to roll with all this big move talk, can't I? Hey at least I didn't make my own thread about this theory.
They are stating this without knowing both sides of the story. Obviously there is something that happened behind the scenes that nobody in the media knows about.
Is that sarcasm? Why would a bigger Expiring then 12 million make all the difference? Us taking back a beasty ugly contract results in nearly the same thing. Your ZBOEC rant just doesn't hold water. I have yet to see a Shinn comment saying CP3 up for grabs, but only for a two dimensional PF with a 17 Million expiring.
Shinn has a tendency to do strange things for monetary reasons. The hornets are not contending and they're locked up with ugly contracts, best to blow it up and at least get under the cap. ZBO being a huge 17 million dollar expiring and us sending young talent would be a better offer than what we do now. Good players are traded for expiring contracts. That's how you get over the top. The general idea you send a big expiring (ZBO) plus a young player (i.e. Batum/Bayless) and in return you get a bloated contract (Okafor) and a star (CP3). CP3 is available for the "right deal" and that deal would be salary cap relief + young talent. They are borerline playoffs, and can't move their ugly contracts. Blowing it up is the only right move for the Hornets right now.
They are basing their opinions on his job performance. Some of us think that is the most important criteria. If the team feels differently, they can defuse the situation by explaining what is going on. Hell's bells......I have been a frequent critic of KP, and even I find this situation absurd!
So why would ZBo's 17M EC be better than the 15M EC we can send with Joel and Andre (OBTW, Joel's probably pays 6M back to the team in insurance cash)
FWIW, JPEC and Miller are 14.6m and ZBO is 17m. Not a huge difference (relatively speaking of course).
Andre Miller is not an expiring contract. There's a team option...but even then, we would still have JPEC with ZBO so the point is moot. You're looking at 7 mil vs. 17 million.
CP3 alone is a $15m contract. They would want us to take Okafor which is $11m = $26m. JPEC + ZBOEC + Batum = $7m + $17m + 2m = $26m much more doable than just being stuck at $15m and trying to throw the kitchen sink to make it work. Its not really doable right now, is it?
He is, at least in terms of what the team wants to do with him. Add another FAIL to the pretend GM list!
