The title of this thread needs to be changed because the pathetic "Big Show" on The Fan shouldnt be getting any credit for this interview. Podcasts - scroll down, right side of page. http://www.955thegame.com/pages/6030220.php
Patterson gave basically the same thoughts while spending 2 hours on The Fan last night during the first round. The Fan info was actually more in-depth and less self-serving as it was more focused on how dysfunctional the Vulcan organization is.
Jaynes asked him point blank who made the deals on draft day in 2006, he answered those questions. Maybe he's lying, maybe he's not, I just find it interesting that there's some discrepancy between public perception that it was all KP orchestrating the deals (mostly from Quick) and now maybe he wasn't.
Steve Patterson is a known liar. See my post on the Miles debacle where Canzano commited "erroneous subterfuge" for telling the truth about Patterson paying for Miles' suspension. Spin that one.
Spin what? I just find it interesting that we're getting a different take on what happened. I make no claims that Patterson is absolutely telling the truth, I just like that we're hearing a different perspective.
The whole bit about the 06 draft made it seem like he tried to downplay KP's role in it. "I made the phone calls to Danny Ainge. I sat with Paxson and talked about that deal. Oh, and KP made the Sergio deal." Doesn't that seem slimy to you? It was in fact KP and his scouting team that identified the talent in the first place.
I think I probably did??? I honestly don't know if it was this one or the former Blazer board either? And I couldn't give a fuck if you believe me or not.
I did try and look back, and I joined sometime in 2008. If you wanna pm me, I will tell you how I know Steve....who is a piece of shit
I'm fine. I have no reason to doubt you. If Patterson wanted Durant, good for him. Seemed like an easy stance to take at the time for him, though, since everybody knew who the Blazers were going to pick. Playing contrarian prior to a known result is always a winning position.
I never bought into the "KP could do no wrong" crap, but he was a top 7-10 GM in this league. Every GM makes mistakes. You don't fire someone like that unless you have a replacement equal or better in hand. And for me "KP the Blazers' GM" is a whole lot more appealing to me than "KP the Nuggets' GM".
I would have been happy to see KP retained, but I don't think it's quite the disaster some are making out (unless his replacement is a boob) As for Denver it sounds like Kroenke's kid is going to take over. In any case, I'm sure KP will get a new gig, but I have to wonder if it won't be as a head of scouting for some organization. This is a pretty small community of people we're talking about. If KP really did try to make a power play for Larry Miller's gig and that's what got he and Penn canned then I tend to think it won't be overnight that he's installed as the head of basketball ops for some team.
Except for the fact that the Blazers never paid it, and the document was written by Jeff Weschler, Miles' agent.
Except that Patterson DENIED there was such a document, until the document surfaced. Patterson is a known liar and is a douchebag in general. His image rehab attempts yesterday while picking on Pritchard's still warm carcass cement my view of him. It's not like the team hadn't paid a huge fine prior to that. The document existed. It had been discussed.
Well, only if the President of the new team is very secure about his own employment. Are there any teams where the President is the owner's kid or something? barfo
