Why is it "most likely" with just cause? Of course, that depends on who's idea of justice. I assume anything Allen does he considers just. This unknowable reality is quite the Rorschach test for many Portland fans. What narrative a person invents to fill the holes in knowledge is greatly informed by the biases they bring to it. I'm not being critical. I'd like to read more invented narratives. There's not a lot else to discuss right now on this forum (now that barfo has made it his mission to shoot down ideas to trade Gomes).
Differing opinions can be true if there is more than one reason for the reality. Plus, minus facts, opinions seem true to individuals, and even when presented with facts, many people still hold their opinion as the truth in spite of reality. Kids are still up. No movie yet. Anybody seen From Paris with Love (no, not the sequel to One Night in Paris).
Hey, I want to trade Gomes. My opinion is that we should trade Gomes. It's a fact that I think we should trade Gomes. It's also a fact that it is my opinion that we aren't going to, because I can't see why Larry Miller would say we weren't going to if we in fact were going to. But I still hope to be wrong. About not trading him, I mean, not about my wanting to trade him. barfo
I hope you're wrong about you wanting to trade him. If you're right, the implications are disturbing.
That last bit is pretty objectionable, to me. Such people should be dismembered and eaten by wild pigs. barfo
My opinion is we should waive Gomes. If he is waived, then my opinion becomes fact, and I will announce to the world that my opinion became reality. Of course, I'll never know the reality of why Gomes was actually waived, so I won't be too excited about it, because I'll realistically never know why my opinion became a fact , other than my own opinion as to why my opinion became a fact, which will then become my reality.
I don't think I am, but if facts come out to show that what I believed about what I wanted was incorrect, then I hope I'll adjust to that and acknowledge that what I thought I wanted wasn't really what I wanted after all. barfo
Anyone want to compare the style and syntax of that letter to the Darius Miles letter? It seems to be clear that he wrote it himself, because the grammar is a bit off in places IMO. Ed O.
You can believe the firing was do to a failed coup attempt, too much arrogance on his part, his inability to get the big deal done due to his reputation around the league for "Prich Slapping" other GM's or PA jealousy for KP taking credit. One fact is clear, KP had many more misses than home runs. Patterson takes credit for Roy and LaMarcus (I'm on the fence). bunt Oden over Durant (didn't disagree with the pick but.....). swing and a miss FA's, we got made a fool by Hedo (thank god for this), missed with Milsap but hurt Utah, got the table scraps with Miller and luckily he panned out the second half of the season but disappeared in the playoffs. Foul ball Bayless, nuff said. pop up to the catcher I really think the only two home runs he hit were with Camby and Batum. Quit frankly any one of us could have stepped in there, with PA money, and done just as good a job if not better. Throw enough darts at the board and you are bound to hit something.
You say one fact is clear, yet you then offer up your opinions to prove the fact. It may be a fact to you, but it certainly isn't reality, is it?
That might be true... but I don't think that's damning him. The best hitters in baseball make outs over half the time... but they still can be great hitters with a .450 OBP. KP did some excellent things and I am disheartened to think we probably won't get a guy as effective as him. I'm just hopeful that we'll learn why he was let go and that we get a competent GM to finish what KP started. Ed O.
