I like how the author goes out of the way to not call out Miller on his "no one can sign until July 8, so we hope to have someone by July 8" thing. B/c while LBJ, Johnson, Wade, Bosh, and every other FA under the sun is being wined and dined by the likes of Donnie Walsh, Pat Riley, Jerry Reinsdorf...we're sending our "top scouts" No offense to Mike and Chad, but would that look like you're getting the Royal Treatment?
Did he say that an dI missed it in the interview? Also, do you think there is a huge priority set by our front office on contacting Lebron or Joen Johnson orWade on July 1st? Sounds like a giant waste of time to me.
I dunno, Brian. None of those guys were coming here anyway. I reallt don't think there needs to be a rush job or anything.
"We haven't reached out to anybody," They've had an active search going for weeks, but have contacted anyone yet? Really, they sound like the keystone cops.
So guys like JJ Redick, or any of the PG's or SFs that we're "Targeting" (though I can't imagine there's any PG in that hot pile of garbage FA list to interest us), are just going to sit on their ass until the 8th when we might have a GM ready? I didn't think I'd be saying this this early, but I'm 100% behind BGrantFan's "Thanks for taking a long weekend, and rolling out of bed Monday to do your effing job, Larry" rants.
I was using this quote: So you don't think that there are any free agents that we'd like to have, and if there were, they'd be happy having our "top scouts" come visit?
As opposed to what? I really hope our management and front office doesn't have that attitude because it is their job to exhaust all possibilities, even if the chances are remote. That's a horrible attitude to have about the free agent class. I would hope our front office puts the effort into acquiring one of these guys, regardless of the chances.
Why? Did you hope we also brought John Wall in for a workout, you know, just in case? You call, find out they've never heard of Portland, and you move on. As for guys like JJ Redick and MLE targets, they aren't going to say oh, you just have a scout calling me, not your gm. This isn't ncaa football, where they're getting recruited. The offer is the same regardless of where it comes from, and they're going off of money, opportunity, and success. MLE is the same everywhere. A newly hired Gm isn't going to sway those types.
maybe he should ask the security guards what to do. what a fucking dolt. http://www.blazersedge.com/2010/6/28/1542595/blazers-president-larry-miller
So Larry Miller was supposed to know someone would leak the info? IF that's close to accurate, it sounds very reasonable
So the idea is to reach agreements with FAs like Reddick, or discuss trades with other GMs, before we even have a GM? Why even hire somebody if the heavy lifting will already be complete? Also, will it be a prerequisite for the new GM to follow through with any agreement to sign that the scouts make? What if the GM wants to take the team in a different direction than the scouts. We're hiring a Yes Man. This confirms it, IMO. Clusterfuck, I say.
Plus, what if the new GM doesn't like the free agent or trade that the scouts like? He gets hired on to a new contract that he had no part in deciding? Clown Town.
Well, he'd see who we signed before the gm came here, and if he liked the signing, no problem, if not, wouldn't come. No cluster fuck or clown town at all.
What a disaster. Making a list of qualities to look for in a GM instead of actively pursuing trades and free agents. Why the fuck wouldn't they do this before trashing KP? What the fuck did that "head-hunting" firm do?
So we're letting the scouts run our summer at this point, and the new GM will need to agree with what the scouts decide? May as well just hire Born and Buchanon and let them take their marching orders from the Vulcans. Plus, is Nate involved even a little bit? Last summer he met with Andre Miller, along with Pritchard, in Las Vegas.
