Is it your opinion that the players on a team don't have any influence on the success of the team? A team's success is purely based on the coach?
Sloan had one of the best power-forwards in the history of the game and one of the best point-guards at the same time for 15 years or so - and still did not win a ring. Sloan is a very good coach, but he is not all-world class, imho.
I guess we'll just disagree about the bolded part then. If you replace Lebron with anybody other than the best player in the world, or Kobe, that team doesn't make any noise, IMO.
I agree that Sloan is a very good coach. I'd probably put him even a bit higher than "very good", and top 3-5 in the league currently. However, I don't put Doc Rivers anywhere near that level. From what I could tell, Boston was coached just as much by Garnett, Allen and Pierce as it was by Doc Rivers.
I think Lebron is probably as valuable as Roy and Aldridge combined, so IMO they are about equal. But I see your point
No it's a combination. Are you under the impression Sloan hasn't been given enough time to get it done? There's not a single coach in the league who's been given more chances with 1 team than him. Either you do or you don't. And he don't.
Please show where I mentioned anything about "time" in my post related to Sloan. Otherwise, nice strawman.
I'm asking you what he's done to be considered a great coach. All I can see is that he's stock piled regular season wins over 357 seasons. Who fucking cares?

So the Stache is better than both Malone and Stockton? I mean afterall, he's won rings. In all seriousness, I think it takes more than one coach, one GM, or one player to win. I don't think it's fair to those that haven't won to say they are less of a player for not winning the title. Especially when Jordan was playing.
Sloan had arguably 2 of the Top 25 players in NBA history for what, 15 seasons? He made the NBA Finals twice, winning zero. He's the poster child for a coach who can't take a team over the top. If people want to bash McMilllan for not being that guy, they should be bashing Sloan as well.
Definately. I think that will come soon enough though. I really would be shocked if we didn't have somoene in place by next week. The search didn't start Monday, Miller's input did. I think they have their guys, and will move quickly. All the while trying not to strike out too many times so it gets out that no one wants the job.
