Now that Pritchard's gone does anyone honestly think there will be a "real" trade?

You mean, like KP saying that he didn't make trades between training camp and the draft b/c of chemistry? Was that absurd, too?

I wonder if we're still in the cake baking stage?

We're a key injury away from entering the gruel cooking stage.

I know he made the Camby trade...and I applaud him for it. But he said multiple times before that things like the following (paraphrased by Maxey):
    or this one, jan 2008

I didn't like any of the rumored trades during Raef's expiring contract year. Paul Allen save over $10 million. Perhaps Pritchard had a trade, and the Vulcans vetoed it for financial reason? ;)

Fair enough. And I've always accepted that not taking on a "bad" contract's a legit reason for not making a move. But KP said multiple times that he doesn't like to make in-season trades, for reasons that I also can understand, if not wholly agree with. I was just responding to OddE's philosophy that it's "absurd" to limit trades based on the calendar, when KP espoused that view for at least 2 of his 3 years here.

I'm willing to move on from KP at this point. It's over. What worries me is that the Blazers just seem to be winging it right now. Who will fill the leadership vacuum? Who is actually running the basketball side right now? And why has Nate been so silent, outside of one appearance at the press conference after the draft?

Way too many questions with 2 days until the summer bonanza.

While it's not a great situation, I'm actually not worried so much about the tactical side. I've been in situations similar to what Born and Buchanan are in (being a subordinate that did a lot of work for a superior who's now gone) and I would bet that the homework's done and they're thinking well on their feet. Strategically, however, the cachet isn't gonna be there...no matter how smart you are or how much homework you've done I don't think that you can woo a FA with no GM and the top scouts making your pitches---especially when Riley, Thorn, Reinsdorf, Walsh etc. are on Line Two.

Honestly, I think Nate's trying to keep a low profile. He likes his 6M a year job.

Good point. I'll point out that Thorn is no longer employed by New Jersey, though.

Also, isn't this Nate's last year (2010-11). Even if he's fired, he keeps his dough unless he goes all mavericky on the organization.

Nate's been on one-year deals for a couple of years now, supposedly. Every year is his last year.

Thorn is still employed by NJ, until July 15.

So Pritchard didn't say it. Someone else said it about him this one time. And he's actually done what that write up said he doesn't do.

    brilliant.

Yea, he certainly made the Hedo and Milsap deals happen last summer.

KP was good in the draft, but Camby seemed to be his only good deal in the regular season. And guess what made that deal work? Paul Allen's cash. Our next GM will have that advantage as well.

Re: Now that Pritchard's gone does anyone honestly think there will be a "real" trade

First, the "paraphrased" part should've told you that Pritchard said it, but wasn't quoted. Your fail, not mine.
Second, he didn't do for 3 years (as evidenced in the second, QUOTED, part) for the reasons paraphrased in the first. Again, your fail, not mine,.
Third, I acknowledged that Camby was a great move, but in this article from Feb 10 of this year he talks about how he doesn't want to trade multiple players for one big man. One could read that and say, "reluctant".

Again, your mouth wrote checks you can't cash. Not my fault you go Tourette's from comprehension fails.

Re: Now that Pritchard's gone does anyone honestly think there will be a "real" trade

The Camby trade was nothing great, we gave up far too much for the little time we'll have him.

KP's good deals all involved picks and cash.

Larry Miller was the driving force in abandoning our rebuild through youth strategy last season, and now we're severely depleted in too many ways to count. Now we're just a bunch of aging and injury-prone vets with an inexperienced bench full of question marks.

Re: Now that Pritchard's gone does anyone honestly think there will be a "real" trade

No, Nate has one year left on his deal. He is guaranteed next year.

Plus, Thorn's contact expires tomorrow, not July 15th. I doubt he'll be making many calls for FAs, since he won't have a job on July 1st. ;)

Huh? Aging and injury prone vets? Are you talking about Camby, Joel and Roy? Those are the only guys on the team that fit that description. Most are barely old enough to drink.

How is that different than a one-year deal?

You didn't read your link very carefully, did you?
