same here. i'm not as big a fan of harris as others here and i think LMA is a little bit of mental toughness away from being an all-star.

if the report is true obviously miller would be on the block also.

I love Aldridge's game when he's on. Don't know what we'll get with Favors. Harris would be ok I guess...but i'm thinking he could be a bit overrated.

Yeah, not really much of a Harris fan anymore, and who knows what Favors will be.

Harris doesn't really pass the "works with Roy" test. Huge defensive upgrade but on par shooting with Miller. Not as good of BBIQ, but younger. Meh is right.

I don't think we should be in "rebuilding" mode. We need proven talent that wins in the playoffs, not just talent and hoping a rookie can step in and start for us.

After this rumor he'll be another bit of mental toughness away.

He was even more restricted before his BYC status kicked in because he was a poison pill provision player all last year.

A team with cap space (like New Jersey) could absorb the difference since the 125% + 100K rule would not apply to them.

That would have been a really interesting (and, IMO, exciting) trade. Favors has more upside than Aldridge, and Harris would improve our PG spot now and into the future. Presumably we'd be able to find a serviceable power forward for a few years.

I don't blame NJ for not doing it, though... they have a longer time horizon than we do to contend and can wait for Favors to develop.

It's not the New Jersey end that wouldn't work, it's the Blazers side of the rumor. Harris makes just under $9M, and the most that the Blazers could take back for Aldridge would be $7.41M. They'd have to throw in another $1.6M in salaries to make the numbers work.

    Now you're $350K short.

who knows what the throw-ins would have been, but it wouldn't have been too difficult to include Rudy and one of the second rounders (Johnson, Pendergraph, Dante) to get it to work.

Agreed. Just saying it would have to cost the Blazers more than just Aldridge, which is what the rumor said.

Trade rumors don't involve the scraps, usually. The main pieces are what is in discussion, filling in the other pieces to make it work.

I'm crying baloney on that one. I think Ford is making it up.

Well, KP wouldn't make that offer.

Squeeze me? Baking powder? A lot of people have compared Favors to Dwight Howard physically (and in terms of his game) and Harris is a year removed from an all-star appearance and could be a lock-down defender at the one for the next 5 years. LMA? Well, he's not terrible and he probably has a little bit of upside left, but he hasn't shown much growth in his first 4 years in the league. This would have been a steal for Portland, which is why Rod Thorn probably turned it down.

I don't think the team should EVER stop trying to improve its talent base, and, especially given the youth of our core, we should be looking to do so.

But he's still an unproven rookie and we're not in a rebuilding mode. To trade LA for him, and with no appreciable PF backup, seems like so much of a stretch that I'm having a hard time buying into the logic of it all. Many bigs have entered the league and gone pffffffffffffft (Darko....), so, again, it just seems to far out.

Even if Favors goes "pffffffffffffffft" (something I don't see particularly likely given his physical profile) I think it's a risk you have to be willing to consider. LMA is a nice, safe player who might even get to the all-star game if enough elite guys retire or switch conferences, but he's not a transcendent player and he's unlikely to be good enough to be this team's number 2 option on a championship squad (a number 3 or 4 for sure). If I was more confident in Oden staying healthy long enough to mature into this team's number 2 option on offense I probably wouldn't worry about LMA so much, but he's looking like a longer bet with every knee injury.
