Roger Mason Jr had a great season as as starter in 08-09. He shot 42% from the three point line and was seriously clutch. At least 4 game winners: http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=US#/watch?client=mv-google&v=iqaBqkn04Mk I would love that guy on our team.
I'd love the 08-09 version of Mason too ... unfortunately there's a pretty strong chance we could end up with the 09-10 version.
He's got no handle and plays weak defense. He can't even shoot it anymore. If we sign him I'll be seriously pissed off.
Color me unimpressed. It seems a little odd we'd be looking mainly at SG's with Matthews, Mason, and Morrow. With Rudy bitching about playing time and SG being Jerryd's best position I have to wonder if the management is setting up a bigger trade.
You have to wonder?? It's obvious. Rudy is gone. Bayless probably too. Rudy is being replaced with Mason or Matthews or Morrow all of whom I think are fine options for us at backup two guard.
Can't shoot anymore? He had one bad season due to inconsistent minutes. You don't suddenly lose your shot in one season after one of the most clutch seasons a player has had in the last 5 years.
I'd wager Rudy is even contemplating a hold-out -- probably wants to force the team to void his contract so he can go back to Espana and play with his BFF for Real Madrid. As for Bayless ... I think it's shit or get off the pot time for young Jerryd; the drafting of Williams and Johnson, plus the pursuit of Farmar and the interest in Matthews, Morrow and now Mason almost makes it seem like a forgone conclusion that he'll be moved this off-season or at the deadline in February.
It's too bad. I've been a huge fan of Jerryd since I learned how to spell his name on draft day. The most exciting games last season were the ones in which he played well. And he was our third best player in the playoffs. But if we're moving him as a piece in a trade for a star player that will put us in the hunt for the title in 2011, I'm not gonna get in Paul Allen's way.
he might not be an aMason (sound it out) player but I think he could be good here. He knows his roll is a bench player and if he returns to form with his long ball he will really help stretch the floor. I would be pissed if he were a starter, but as one of the backups to Roy, who should be playing 35' or more, then that's good in my book.
Pritchard said that McMillan is asking for shooters. That explains the interest in finding a SG when we already have some.
If the team is already giving up on Bayless, it's making a huge mistake. He improved dramatically in his second season and he's only about 10 months older than our two first rounders. Ed O.
I'm not making a judgment about Jerryd's improvement or fit with the team (I'm about fifty-fifty on him being the right guy), I'm just doing my best to read the tea-leaves.
