Cause we need a back up to Roy after we trade Rudy more than a back up to Nic after we drafted Babbitt. Their stats are pretty comparible in Chills last year and Matthews first. http://www.basketball-reference.com...m=0&p1=childjo01&y1=2008&p2=matthwe02&y2=2010
This Woj blog is crammed with good stuff. The Hedo contract replaces the Amare one? Required reading, full of surprises! Oh Woj, I love you!
...here is the official ESPN link, "Turkoglu, Childress to Suns": http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5372405
Thanks, Hack. Have you moved up from door-to-door yet? I'm still in the anchovy department, but now they let me deliver sometimes.
Hedo looks Filipino. I used to start threads on the ESPN Orlando board that he looks Oriental. I'd post about 5 pictures of him, squinty eyed, ask if he is Oriental, and then (to catch the few who didn't get pissed off) ask them whether everyone in Florida is an Oriental. Those yokels always took me seriously and informed me that they weren't and what an idiot I was. I love to outrage Southerners.
I agree - if (and it's a big if) Hedo was going to be good anywhere, it would've been back in Orlando or this. Hope he and his wife enjoy beautiful cosmopolitan Phoenix... This is annoying: Phoenix are a playoff team again, I think.
Incidentally, both of the Suns deals used the all-the-rage trade-exception trickery. It used to be that if you were over the cap and lost a UFA, you were screwed. But now teams just get trade exceptions, and can keep spending hugely. I betcha that loophole is the first thing that's going to get killed in any new CBA, just to save owners from themselves. (Was Tom Penn the first to work out trade exceptions, in the legendary James Jones deal?)
They don't have a dive man for the pick and roll anymore, Hedo gives them a new wrinkle as a point forward, but who is he going to run the side pick and roll with? Channing, Warrick, Lopez? Furthermore, It's not like Stoudemire was any kind of defender, but Hedo at power forward is going to be laughably bad, especially as his decline continues, that team also looks like it's going to get murdered on the boards.
Yes, I would have actually been quite excited to get Childress for that coin. And I also think a Roy/Childress/Batum perimeter would work better than a Roy/Matthews/Batum perimeter because Childress is a good passer.
