a winning drama queen with a boat load of talent who can make everyone on the team better... the AntiRudy
How do I put this delicately..... If you want Angelina Jolie in your movie, and one of her demands is naked slave boys to feed her grapes, you smile and nod and do what she asks. If Kingspeed makes the same demand, you laugh. (even though Eric is a better actor than Rudy is BBall player) Fair? Maybe not. Reality? Yes.
Here's my next t-shirt I should purchase with his #5 on it. You can buy it here. http://www.cafepress.com/ stop_whining_tee,377615525
most every top athlete is an egomaniac used to having everything go their way... acting up/whining is expected when it doesn't. Hell, golden boy Roy wasn't exactly whine free last offseason when he wasn't immediately maxed out or very accommodating about playing with Miller after he was. That Rudy/any player wants to play isn't a shocker STOMP
It just seems like it goes beyond playing though. Rudy got playing time. He got a ton of opportunity in the playoffs. This seems like it's a difference of opinion between Rudy and Nate over how Rudy is being used, OR maybe he just doesn't want to be in Portland. After Rudy signed here and had made the trip to Portland for the first time, my fiance ran into him at a club downtown. This was before she and I were dating. She danced with him, and they got to talking. Apparently he didn't really like it here. He said the weather sucked and that he missed Spain. I wrote it off at the time because I figured Portland is the kind of place that grows on you. Maybe it never did for Rudy.
Portland grows on SOME who move there. When I meet folks who are from England, Germany, Scandinavia, Alaska, the NorthEast, UpperMidWest, and I ask them about tolerating the "weather", they look perplexed. "What weather?" Weather is a non-issue to folks who grew up in places where the overall climate is not significantly better. When I meet folks who grew up in California, they can't help but talk about the rain, and how depressing the constant rain can be, and how difficult it is to deal with cloudy/rainy/dark for weeks on end. As for millionaire basketball players, a few grew to love Portland, and for the most part they: Didn't grow up in California or Spain with a near impossible to beat Mediterranian climate. Are homebodies Have a family with kids Love fishing or other outdoors activities Established Portland as their year-round home, thus found out that summer in the Pacific Northwest cannot be beat by many other US locales. The players that scoot out of town for most of the summer, never really get to fall in love with much of what's best about the place. Or, as the outlier, you are a funky spirit like Channing Frye and like the unique Keep Portland Weird funky/bohemian/youth aspect of the town. Rudy has no cultural reference for the weird side of Portland. It is all lost in translation. He is single, and frankly there aren't nearly as many really hot women in Portland as other US cities. He is single and the nightlife in Portland is weak. He is not a homebody. He hates the weather. Portland couldn't be further from Spain. Can you see Rudy with a fishing rod? So, it wouldn't be suprising if Rudy doesn't love the town all that much. So, he focuses on his place on the team and his career. How is that going?
