The interesting part might be the turning JPEC into a trade exception. Joel has one more year left. The trade exception would give someone savings right now. It could be a lot more appealing to a team looking to cut costs.
I could see something like this but I could also see Rich trying to do a simultaneous deal to ship out Miller. If we take on Collison it will be apparent we will have to move Miller and drive down some value.
Tell N.O to trade us Collison for Rudy (now) and if they decide to trade cp3 at the trade deadline we will make sure we include him back to N.O when we get Paul. I would throw in Armon Johnson too.
That's an idea if it's legal which I don't know. Or we could just stockpile NOH desired assets right now and wait for the inevitable and be ready to pounce. A TPE would be better then Wallace in that case.
Can't trade a player back for a year, I believe. As for the TPE, we wouldn't be able to combine it with other players to fit into a trade, which would make just having a 7.4 TPE and using it to get Okafor and Paul a lot harder.
You can't combine a TPE with other players in a trade?!? Whaaa? That's news to me of course I'm far from a CBA expert.
No. Only way to do it is if the TPE fits with the salary of an incoming player, you techynically make it two separate deals. So, TPE for Posey, and then Miller, Rudy, Batum and Bayless for Paul type of thing. It can look like one giant trade, but it's really two seaprate.
It's all about what NOH wants and going out and getting it. I assume everyone has seen the newest CP3 rumblings: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5415294
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=22oqc97 I havn't seen this one yet - appears to work on several fronts for both teams. Any takers? This gives us an amazing package of Miller and Camby, come the trade deadline to ship out for a key missing ingredient (providing Oden was having a productive and healthy year!)
This is the rumored deal on the Clubblazers.com forum ... http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2dlav7u Not bad (it would also have a future 1st pick from Boston coming to Portland).
Sounds like he has Cunningham included as well. Joel, Rudy, Bayless and Cunningham for Collison and Posey? Must really like Collison.
Am I the only one here who overrates Collison? The dude is amazing. Getting him for Rudy would be robbery for us. I don't see New Orleans doing that trade.
Oops missed Dante ... anyway, yeah it sounds like Collison is somebody they really like a lot ... I think it's a good move. 1) Rudy wants to be gone and doesn't really have a role here any more with the Matthews signing. 2) Bayless behind Miller might get 12 minutes a night and would have almost no minutes at the 2 with Matthews here, he won't stay content for long, and I'm dubious about his longterm prospects of ever becoming a capable point guard (minimum of 2 years if ever). 3) Dante is also going to be a low minute reserve, so the opportunity cost isn't as great as it appears (I do like Inferno quite a bit though, losing him would stink). 4) Joel may never be healthy enough to provide meaningful production. Final roster if this move happened: Miller/Collison/Johnson? Roy/Matthews/Williams Batum/(Matthews)/Posey/Babbitt LMA/(Camby)/Pendergraph/(Babbitt) Oden/Camby/(Pendergraph). ()=secondary position I like that team's chances quite a bit.
I've liked Collison for years while he was at UCLA. You know he had to play defense there, unlike Kevin Love. The funny thing about Howland at UCLA is that he can recruit very good players, but his style of coaching makes Nate McMillan look like Paul Westhead. UCLA should have an NCAA title in the past 5 years with the players they had on their team. Collison/Westbrook/Shipp/Love/Mbah a Moute, and they could not win one title when the NCAA is typically dominated by good guards in the tournament? Are you kidding me?
So throw in Okafor for Pryzbilla and New Orleans likes this deal better!? add Bayless and it makes this deal a "NO" brainer for the Hornets? Rudy Bayless Pryz for Collison Okafor
In my opinion, if he's actually as good as he was as a starter, then yes...he is amazing. But if he's only as good as he was overall last season, he's solid, but not that great.
