That deal does work under the cap. Try again. Deng 2.6M, Gordon 3.9M, Brown 8.6M is 15.1 out. Gasol was 12.8M, Warrick 1.2m, or 14M in.
http://slumz.boxden.com/f16/latest-garnett-rumor-kg-deng-thomas-chandler-710256/ 06-28-2006 Daily Southtown: A deal for Garnett would likely include Thomas, whose outrageous athleticism piqued the interest of the Timberwolves, among other teams. One possibility has Thomas headed to the Bulls at the second overall pick. They then would send Thomas, center Tyson Chandler and forward Luol Deng to the Timberwolves in return for Garnett, the former Farragut Academy star. The deal could include other draft picks or lesser players. Such a move would provide the Timberwolves with a young frontcourt to build around. In Garnett, the Bulls would have the superstar talent necessary to make a serious playoff run next spring, provided they're able to sign a free-agent center, such as Nene or Joel Przybilla, this summer.
^^^ That would be before everyone got a whiff of what Thomas actually is as a player, instead of the Bulls Kool-Aid.
You're the one who says post scorers are hard to come by, yet the evidence is clear we whiffed twice at the chance.
Denny make some sense. Post players are hard to come. The bulls couldn't make a good enough deal for one, and didn't bankrupt their future for another. Doesn't that make them hard to come by?
Both ended up elsewhere. Hint: they were moved, we didn't pull the trigger on at least two/three deals it looks like were on the table for us. 20 PPG scorers must be hard to come by, too. We've had just 4 since Jordan left. 3 before last season. Two did it more than one season. Of the top 30 rebounders in the league, 17 scored 15PPG or more last season. 17 shot 50% or better. Top 30 would be enough for one per team.
What was the third deal after KG (who wasn't available when the bulls offered) and Gasol (who wasn't worth bankrupting the team's future)? If the bulls have had 4 20 pt scorers and no low post players, would it be logical to assume that you're completely overrating the value of a 20 pt scorer. Or is that too obvious and painful to admit?... And what does rebounding have to do with anything? The bulls didn't sign boozer to rebound since they were already one of the best rebounding teams in the league.
When the Bulls had a 20 PPG scorer, and a 19 PPG scorer, and two 17 PPG scorers (AT THE SAME TIME), they played .600 ball. Nope, I'm not overrating the value of having even more scoring. There were two times KG was on the table if we wanted him bad enough. We could have had Wade, too, but PaxDorf didn't want to give up Donyell Marshall's 18 PER at MLE price for the right to move up and pick him.
Uh Denny, they have three potential 20 pt scorers now... Or do you have to have the 17ppg scorer, too, to be good enough offensively.
Having 4 at 4 positions is better than having 3 at 3 positions. We'll have to wait and see if we play .600 ball with just the 3 and not much bench. I'm not seeing a .600 team unless Rose makes a ton of 3pt shots.
Nope. 2008-2009 after acquiring Miller and Salmons. Salmons averaged 18 PPG for us, Gordon 21, Rose 17, and Deng 14. I consider Deng a 16 PPG scorer, as that's his career average. Miller gave us 12PPG off the bench, and Hinrich 10.
So .600 is the post all-star break bounce that every team that makes the playoffs typically gets when the rest of the league starts playing rookies and tanks? Really, a month of basketball?
1/3rd of a season, and the only data point we really have is that's how we played the only time we had those guys together.
And, the late point in the season where they made their actual playoff run, and after a few games for the new players to gel, we played .750 ball. 12-4 over the last 16 games, or 1/5th of the season.
