It's New York; we'll take an unprotected first. :D Hell, a protected first; it's not like they're going to get good anytime soon.

I hope we don't get used to the term "paralysis by analysis" with this new regime.

What I am trying to figure out is why the management team is trying to work for this guy when he really hasn't done jack dick in the league. The only way we are going to get the value out of Rudy for a trade is to play hardball, and for him to play better than he did last year.

Please, don't use the term, regime. It's simply referred to as culture, dude. Culture. :)

I think Portland promised him more than the coach or whoever was able to give him and this makes Portland look bad. Rudy does have agents that talk. Just my opinion.

I think that's right. Accomodating Rudy has less to do with him than with future free agents that will look at how we treat people who don't fit. Repped.

At the same time, the teams goal is to make the team better, and not to make any of our competition better. Giving away Rudy is mistake when we could get more for him. I really don't care if he is unhappy on the bench. There have been players who have been unhappy on other teams around the league, and many of them end up working out ok, because really the problem is the players attitude, not the team. Once you can get a player to turn around their attitude, success can be had. Rudy's body language all of last year was the body language of a player who had already quit on his team. Why should the team take a hit for a quitter like that?

And I think purple unicorns fart rainbows and bigfoot is real ... we can believe all sorts of things in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary if we try hard enough.

I think if Rudy had proven that he had a game consisting of more then 3 pt shots, goofy fade-aways, and moon balls in the key (with the occasional alley-oop his rookie year), that the coach would have been able to utilize him better. Skinny SGs with no handles have a very limited role in the NBA.

Well, if the team is trying to get Rudy in a better situation because they agree with him that Portland's promises to him to lure him over were not 100% kept, the team is going to look at it from a different value perspective.

My main point though is how does shipping Rudy to NY help the competition? Since when is NY anybody's competition? If we ship Rudy to Houston, Denver, Utah, OKC, etc., then I see your point. But NY? Let him go there.

It will be very interesting to see just what kind of drama unfolds if the team can't move him before the start of training camp.

I'm guessing he will ruin his trade value if we don't move in a couple of weeks max. He has probably heard rumors about where he might go and if it all goes dead, he will probably start talking about demanding a trade or not coming back to Portland and ruin any value we have to move him. If we can get a 1st round pick, we should move on it. Just my opinion.

yep, even if it is lotto protected. There really isn't any reason to bring back a player on a similar contract, IMO.

I'm sure you're joking, but there is no way that works under the CBA.
