Having said that, thought of two more teams:
ORLANDO. If they had a trade exception, I'd settle for that and the rights to Fran Vasquez. One Spaniard who doesn't want to be here for a Spaniard who may never come over. (But at least is a very good defender. And certainly someone who breaks the "pretty boy" Spaniard mold.)
UTAH. Don't laugh: if Jerry Sloan can make defenders out of Jeff Hornacek and Memo Okur, he can work with anyone. And it would be kind of poetic to have Rudy replace Matthews...

(I think Boston probably thinks they've fulfilled their no-defense gunner quota with Von Wafer.)

There is no rush. Just because Rudy wants to play for those 3 teams, sure as hell doesn't mean we need to trade him to only those teams. He's a third year bench player and certainly doesn't have any kind of no trade clause in his contract. I see no reason why the organization owes him anything especially with the pouty attitude he had last year.

Well, unless Rudy is packaged with other players, his salary pretty much dictates what the Blazers will get in return (not much of value).

Agreed... and I don't really think he has enough clout to poison the team with a bad attitude.

Plus, there IS the chance that something will click and he figures it out as a Blazer.

The best reason to move him now is to keep a roster spot for Mills. I don't know if that's enough reason to give him away, though, for next to nothing.

What's worth more: giving Rudy what he wants (a new home) and sending a message to potential free agents and other players (and their agents) that Portland treats its players well and will do right by them, or holding on to him out of spite, devaluing him further all in the vain hope of getting some really sweet deal for him or potentially using him as a throw-in at the trade deadline?

In that context I think you have to move him and take what you can get. While holding on to him partly out of spite and to prove a point, seems like it will cause more harm than good to the organization in lost chemistry, bad PR, and potentially poisoning the well for future players who might have second thoughts about joining the organization ... particularly foreign players you might like to add to roster through the draft down the line.

It works. Rudy's contract is $2.18M, Johnson's is $1.83M. The Bulls have cap space to take Rudy for a 2nd rounder. Portland is over the cap, but is NOT taking back more than 125% of $2.18M + $100K.

And Johnson was playing SG for the Bulls' summer league team.

Rudy makes 1.2 not 2.1 million.

$1.25M. It doesn't work, unless portland sends out another contract. Like Cunningham or Pendergraph.

I don't agree with that at all. If a free agent wants to pick an organization to play for they do so based on either money, or a chance to win. I highly doubt players around the league are keeping tabs of whether a team is being thoughtful of a players feelings during the possibility of a trade, especially a mediocre player like Rudy. Agents are going to go where the money is so they can get their 5 or 10%. Being held hostage in the trade process, because a player demands three teams that he wants to play for is a good way of limiting options and not getting the maximum amount of talent in return. Heck, even the Hornets told Paul that he didn't have say of where he is going to be traded. What makes you think Rudy should.
