That's a pretty bad compairson. I'm pretty sure Walton ended up being diagnosed with Osteoporosis which of course they couldn't test for back in the golden era of the 70's and 80's. Oden's already been tested for osteoporosis and that was 100% ruled out. So it isn't a medical thing.

And might there be something that 30 years from now Oden may be diagnosed with as well? I have never heard anything about Walton being diagnosed with osteporosis. I have heard theories that his vegetarianism led to some sort of vitamin deficiency that weakened his bones. If that is osteporosis, great. Lets wait 30 years to diagnose Oden as well.

My comparison with Walton was mainly about skill levels, great PER while on court, etc... The medical part was to point out that Walton was able to overcome them a time or two anr that there is certainly hope for Oden based on that, and especially with the advanced medicine we have today versus in 1978.

Google osteporosis and Bill Walton and you'll get 2,800 hits. Mainly because he's the test case of old medicine and how hard those things were to test for back in the day.
    http://www.fortmyersbeachtalk.com/p...-Trace-elements-in-Osteoporosis.html?nav=5048

"Walton was one of the top player in the National Basketball Association. But at the top of his game, he was benched by a series of bad breaks: broken fingers, broken toes, a broken cheek, a broken wrist, a broken leg, and a broken nose. In 1978 he broke a bone above the arch of his left foot. Soon after, another crack occurred in the same foot and wouldn't heal. X-rays revealed that Bill Walton was suffering from osteoporosis."

Could there be something Oden is diagnosed with 30 years from now? Possible. I think it is far more likely to say there will be different ways we can watch the movies we want to see 30 years from now because technology is ever changing in the wold of watching movies. But I think it is far less likely to say the way a road is paved will change a lot in 30 years. I think things like osteoporosis and degenerative bones or lack of diet and supplements are much closer to the latter example of things that have gone through their advancements and likely won't change much in 30 years.

just to set the record strait, this isn't correct. He didn't have a broken wrist, he had a torn ligament in his wrist.

You're not the only one who uses the word "breakout," but just to inform you younger guys--Walton had no breakout year. He was in the Top 2 Centers (Jabbar) from his very 1st NBA game.

His NBA coaching at every stop was inferior to what he learned in college. He probably got worse each pro year, not better, by forgetting the Wooden habits.

The moderators here are incredibly professional and silent. That's a hornet whom I like, but shouldn't joke with much. Good move.

To be honest, I wish Greg would have said, "I want to win a Championship" as opposed to, "I want to be an All-Star."

    Be like Buck!!!

Buck Williams never won a ring, did he? Maybe he should have focused on making more all-star teams.

Actually, it's one the the things Buck said just last week when asked why he wanted to return to the game.

Not that I know of. That's probably why they weren't cited by me.

It's just that it would be nice to hear Greg relate that his main goal is winning. All I seem to hear from him is the me, me, me stuff.

    Whatever, though. ;)

As the team is assembled now, if he makes the All-Star team we are going to be a winner. Everybody realizes he's the final piece.

Except when we drafted him all he talked about was winning, so it was pretty clear that is has been his number one goal. I see no reason why he can't add additional goals, such as becoming an all-star, to his already stated championship goal.

We shall see. Greg has a lot of growing up to do. Glad he's addressing that at this point.

Maybe he feels he has something to prove? I certainly think he does. Can he continue to dominate and can he stay healthy? Can he get better? You think Kobe doesn't think about individual awards? Or LeBron? Do you think that hinders their game? Kobe had a huge problem with sharing, but he learned and got better. That Greg wants to be the best player possible is exactly what I want to hear. If he is able to stay healthy and play up to his potential, the Championships will come. I honestly believe that.

Are people seriously reprimanding Greg for saying he wants to be an all-star? :ughno: Some Blazer fans are impossible to please.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
He can't win by himself. I want him to be focused on being the very best player he can be, because that is what will help the team win most. A team is the sum of parts, and hopefully every part wants to be great and maximizes his ability.
