I'd disagree with that last statement.

The Blazers true PG is not only their starting PG, but a top 10 PG in the league. And even through he is past 30, the playoffs are usually the time with guys past 30 rise above the guys 29 and under. The Lakers had a guy past 30 in Kobe and it worked for them. Boston had a couple guys past 30 and it worked for them to de-throne King James (under 29).

So that argument doesn't really hold true until maybe 11/12 when Miller is too old to keep the Blazer's dynasty going. We have time to worry above filling that void and letting our current guys become the "new vets" when we get there to get that new PG.

I doubt that is what they are thinking. But, whatever, I know what MY strategy would be - Chris Paul or "nothing". Keep the pressure on to make a deal for a future Hall of Famer.

    No guts, no glory.

We already have the best consolation PG in the league. Why are some on this board desperate for a new point guard. Like Collison is the difference between winning or not. Ridiculous. We already have a decent player in Miller.

The worst-case scenario if we fail to make an unlikely trade for a future hall of famer we trot out a lineup of Miller, Roy, Batum, LA, Oden. Yep. That team can't make it without a trade for a Collison type player. We are doomed.

I'd rather go for Conley. Cheaper and more tread on the tires. Parker if he were to be traded would have quite a few red flags as to why SA was willing to trade him. That or you would have to bend yourself over the barrel to get him. Neither scenario excites me.

I seriously think Conley is our best shot for a young PG on another team.

Be frustrated all you want, but what is the point? You have no access to the behind the scenes information that factors into all these transactions. Speculation is almost futile. All we get is drips of water from a fire-hose of inside info

I would rep you Masbee once again for keeping it real but I gotta spread some around first!

Or NOH was deadset on getting an athletic wing and they weren't willing to give up Batum. I think that is likely. The rockets would not have done that deal without the reported drama IMO.

A few good things come out of this:
    1. Daryl Morey looks like a bit of an ass: overpaid for Ariza and then has to dump him.
    2. This board can give up on BOTH Collison AND Chris Paul.

There are so many overrated players involved in this trade, I think Troy Murphy ends up being the only underrated one. He's like an uglier David Lee who can shoot threes. I hereby declare NJ the winner, because Lee wasn't doing anything for them but they've had a gap at the 4 for as long as Indiana's been looking for a PG, and I think Murphy will work well with Lopez.

I fearlessly predict that Collison will come back to earth with a bump in Indiana. (If not, good for him - he seems like a good kid.) With this trade and the followup trade for Belinelli, New Orleans should be a runnin' gunnin' machine - until Chris Paul's knees give out again, at which point they are fucked.

Um, I think we need to make it past the first round, unless you were talking about the game of Dynasty warriors that Oden and Bayless have been playing since the Magette knee injury.

I agreed with the rest of what you said by and large. I think people are over doomsaying here.

After the meeting with CP3 I swore I heard them say if any trade were to be made, they were going to deal with Eastern teams. Maybe they didn't want to make an In-Conference team stronger. I think this trade is horrible for NOLA, poor Monty!

Max is my boy! I have told him about S2 but he says he doesn't visit such places. On a side note, his beyondthebeat.com is really taking off! Hired a number of writers as he is spreading out to other sports like the Timbers.

With one major difference ... he's not on the Blazers payroll (as far as we know?).

    LOL that Belinelli is mentioned.

    Like, AT ALL.

Seriously, if Belinelli is trotted out as one of the reasons that Chris Fucking Paul is going to come off his demands, then I don't know what to say.

Paul - "I demand a trade to a team that is trying to win."
NO - "Dude. We got your back. We traded for Belinelli."
Paul - "Did you have to give up something to get him?"
NO - "Well, yeah, we gave up a rotation player to get him, but we think he is a better fit."
Paul - "So, I am supposed to get excited that you have a better fit? Is he a flat-out talent upgrade. You are talking about Galinari, right?"
NO - "No, Belinelli. The not nearly as good Italian, as the other Itialian who is good, but really, not that great himself."
Paul - "What the fuck?!?. You trade Wright who has better career stats than Belinelli and is younger, but it is all good because he will fit better? Dude, maybe, but there is no talent upgrade here. Where is the talent upgrade?"
NO - "Oh year, we got Ariza for Collison. Ariza is a defensive stud."
Paul - "I see what's going on here. Replace Posey with Ariza and Peja with Belinelli. And try to fake like that is good enough to recreate our magic from the past. Nice try, but not even close. You have yet to increase the actual talent level of the team."

Yes, Belinelli is a one dimensional scrub. You know, like Steve Kerr? Before Steve Kerr found a home, he was on a Cavs team that beat another team by _60 points_. And he still didn't get in the game. If the Hornets are still trotting out Peja with his ruined back, they can get some mileage out of Belinelli. Like Bayless, he's a Summer League Hero!

So does that mean TrOut is going to go back to playing some SF since NJ picked up Murphy?

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I hate to burst the bubble of the people relieved at the idea that means Paul is definitely staying put...because I don't think that's what this means. ;) I never believed it was "Paul or Collison." That doesn't make sense...you don't determine the status of your future Hall of Fame point guard based on the presence of a decent player. It would be like deciding you can deal Kevin Durant with 1-2 years of team control left because you have Jeff Green.

As far as I'm concerned, decisions on the two players were largely independent. Yes, if they had traded Paul, they may have then valued Collison more. But trading Collison doesn't mean they can't trade Paul. It means that if they do trade Paul, they can now be open to getting a young point guard back in return.

I don't think Paul will be traded anytime soon, simply because teams are rightly loathe to trade all-time great players in the prime of their careers. But I don't think the trading of a marginal player (relative to Chris Paul) has anything at all to do with what they'll do with Paul.
