On Courtside, he effectively just said that "nothing is broken" and "the team just needs to get healthy and familiarize themselves with each other. They're right there."

In other words, let the cake bake, baby!

So does that mean he gets to overrule Cho, who thinks they are a player or two away?

Actually, Cho said we're gonna give a player or two away. ;)

A little birdy just told me that Cho is looking to acquire some ethnic flare. He's looking to get Yi, Ha and Yuta Tabuse in a consolidation deal.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Nothing is broken (well, for now, in Oden's case). That said, if a good trade opportunity comes along, the Blazers should take it. I've never understood the "let it bake" people or the "we need a trade" people. We always need a good trade and we should always be passing on bad trades. Any time there's a chance to improve the team, it should be taken...and whenever the available trade options are poor, they should be let pass.

Why would anyone stake themselves to a general "make a trade" or "don't make a trade" position? Doesn't it always 100% depend on the possible trade?

Exactly correct. That said there probably is a "need" to make a trade for the sake of roster balancing and sanity; we're pretty thick with shooting guards.

Well, Cho did say the Blazers are one or two players away. What does that say to you?

rosters go 15 deep these days allowing teams to stash many players who won't see any PT. Teams should be concerned how balanced they are in their top 10 players or so, but after that I see nothing wrong with carrying who they feel are their top prospects to someday develop. No team is able to lose it's top talents to injury and still thrive.

to the OP... thats what every coach pretty much always says for every team. Their job is to win with what they have

That a roster is never perfect and it can always be improved. I would be a little leery of a GM who said "We have everything we need. I'll just be sitting here playing computer Solitaire. Should be a great season!" even if his team were the Lakers or Heat. ;)

One advantage to changing coaches periodically - the new guy can come in and say " I don't care about the past. I don't care about your salary or your rep. Everybody from 1-15 has to EARN their role." Sounds like BB wants to assure the players that he won't be taking on that job.

As for Cho - Minstrel has it exactly right. No matter how rose-garden colored your glasses, you want a GM who is always looking to get better.

Other teams know we have to trade guards, so Bernie's just putting out the (false) word that we don't. He thinks like a GM. Don't know why.

This team is dangerously close to being a train wreck

Expand. I assume you mean from a chemistry standpoint (I somewhat agree)?

Yes, chemistry. We have player here that don't want to be here. We have players here that other players don't want to play with. We have a roster that was put together by a GM that wanted to push the ball, for a coach that doesn't. We have a GM, president, Owner and coach that all need to see deals before something can get done. We have 2 new asst. GM's that were hired who did the same jobs Buchanan and Borne do. We have a GM who thinks we are one or two moves away, but a coaching staff who thinks we are fine right now. And lastly, we have a roster that has proved nothing other than it is extremely injury prone.

Ouch. Sounds like we'll be lucky to win 25 games this season, huh?

Not at all, but I think if some things don't get done, we could be in for a drama filled season rather than going undefeated like some probably think.

I really don't think anything I said in my answer to Nik was out of line or even hyperbole. All of those things do exist, but whether or not they become an issue is anyones guess. Thus my original comment of being close to a train wreck instead of being one.

Who are the "players that other players don't want to play with"?

Why is it a trainwreck if we have two asst GM's that have similar backgrounds to Borne and Buchanan?

How has this roster not proved anything other than being injury prone? Winning 54 games with injuries proves something.

It sounds like you weren't being all that objective in your analysis and instead decided to type the same things and hyperbole that you always do.

There are unhappy players on the end of every bench. I expect players to want to compete for more minutes. I expect players to be frustrated when they don't get those minutes. The reality is only so many players can play. When you play well, you get minutes. When you stink it up, you sit.

Some of the Portland fanbase are dangerously close to going off the rails.
