rondo - to% 19.3 rose - to% 12.5 to% being turnovers per 100 plays. rondo has a better assist/turnover ratio, but still turns the ball over more. k.
It would be nice to have that choice. And certainly Rose has all the hype, being drafted #1 and all. But of course Rondo has a shitload more amazing playoff highlights. And of course, that choice was not the one the US team was faced with. It was more like Rondo or one of Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Andre Iguodala, Kevin Love... It's pretty pathetic if you have to drop a player of Rondo's caliber merely because you have so few, and so shitty big men on your team. Here's an interesting take on the whole Rondogate.
Watching the preliminary matches it seems clear that teams are going to pack in the paint and dare our guards to shoot. Call me crazy, but I think the best starting guard lineup would be Curry and Billups. Put guys out there who will absolutely punish other teams for sagging. We've got tons of guys who can slash into the paint. Anybody remember the embarrassment of the 2004 roster? Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amar'e Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Carlos Boozer, Carmelo Anthony, Stephon Marbury, Richard Jefferson, Lamar Odom, Emeka Okafor. There are some similarities. They looked good on paper, but in practice it was one pretty good center (Duncan/Chandler), a bunch of slashers, and point guards who couldn't shoot. Westbrook/Rose/Rondo are just a little too reminiscent to me of the PG play we had on that team. Obviously, it's not a perfect comparison. (The way Larry Brown used LeBron was utterly incompetent. We had nobody on that team who could shoot like Durant does. These guards are better defenders than those were.) But international play is even tougher now than it was then. Chandler is a much worse offensive player than Duncan was. I just have a feeling that we're going to see Rose and Westbrook left wide open as they brick 22 footers, and that's going to make it tough to win. I really like Rondo as a player, but I'm glad he left instead of Curry.
lmao what a bullshit stat. Rose shoots a lot more (almost twice as much) with those possessions, while Rondo is doing his job as a PG.
One other thing that's becoming obvious--if he can get and stay healthy, Oden will be on that team in two years. Aldridge probably too, if he wants it. Wouldn't it be awesome if we had Oden, Roy and Aldridge there then? More than anything, it'd mean our guys were finally so rock-solid healthy that it was a no-brainer to send them out to compete. Extremely doubtful that'd happen, but it's late August and a Blazer fan can dream....
The risk of inury would be scary even if they had been healthy but that would be so fun to see. The sense of pride would be off the charts.
If those three could rock the Olympic team, they'd become so popular and marketable nationally that Stern's mafia would have to give them some calls on the court. Right? Hey, a Blazers fan can dream....
lol. It certainly couldn't hurt. Although I'm not sure I noticed a "superstar bump" from past players who made the team. I mean, as far as the refs go. It did seem like Wade, Mello, Bosh and LeBron all significantly benefited from playing on those teams in terms of their own mindset. Playing next to guys like Kobe really seemed to drive home to them what it takes to be the best in the game. Of course, in hindsight I wonder if Cleveland and Toronto fans kind of wish they'd stayed out of USA Basketball. hmmm. Stay away Oden! Stay far away!
I think Rondo is the product of a great situation. Yes he still has to get it done on the court and he has, but when the big 3 first came together he was left wide open for 90 straight games. He was very lucky to fall into that position.... NOT a fan of his. By the way, he actually is a worse shooter then our Dre Miller!
I'm sure because he's shooting more. Don't get me wrong, he has had some amazing games in the past couple years, but when the big 3 are gone, you'll see he is NOT an upper tier player.
The team won't be as good, but he will always be an upper tier player. Unless you don't think Jason Kidd had an upper tier career, because that's basically who I think he is.
What's your beef with Rondo, HCP? It's pretty weak to say "he'll look worse when the 'Big 3' are gone", because you've got nothing to go on now. He's a 23 year old Jason Kidd. (38 year old Kidd had developed a three point shot, for one thing, and only an idiot could say that Rondo was slow or unathletic.) Methinks you need some remindin'... That's just the playoffs, FAMS. When the Bulls hit the playoffs, suddenly Joakim Noah is top Bull.
I doubt that. He's arguably the best player on that team right now (since Garnett has declined, though he is arguably still better). I think Rondo is on the short list with Deron Williams for second-best point guard in the NBA behind Chris Paul (both way, way behind Chris Paul).
