He's come a long way.......... http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/articles/2010/08/29/portland_gm_cho_is_truly_a_trail_blazer/
Guard Rudy Fernandez recently asked for a trade, but Cho maintains he will not make a deal just to appease the Spanish star. “If there’s a trade that we feel like will improve the team, then we won’t hesitate to make a trade,’’ he said. “But I want to improve the team, if [the deal] makes sense. No offense, Cho, but if Rudy leaves for Spain and you passed on what might have been a 14-16 first round draft pick, how did that "help the team"?
Rudy can leave for Spain without the Blazers' permission, but he cannot play professionally there without it. The team doesn't have to release him nor accept a buyout. The team has all the leverage in the world if they have the will to exercise it. Ed O.
Pretty funny that they fled Burma's Socialism only to hypocritically rely on "American Socialist Programs" like welfare, food stamps, and tax-free church handouts to get ahead.
Hey everyone! We're playing hardball with our piece of trash and you can't have him!! This whole situation is stupid. Step up, Cho.
Cho is handling the Rudy situation perfectly, IMO. He has all the time and all the leverage he needs. Just relax.
By leverage and having all the time he needs do you just mean he's being borderline unreasonable in trade negotiations?
We don't need Rudy. If you bend to his demands it shows weakness. Maybe you could get a first round pick, but that's about all anyone is possibly offering, and even then it's going to be like a 22 or 24.
No. I mean he has all the leverage and time in the world. Pretty clear. Rudy is a bitch that shouldn't be rewarded for his piss poor attitude. Let him dangle on the hook for a while. Fuck that guy. I hope we never trade him. I want him to "hold out" and not play for 2 years. That's what he deserves.
F' what Rudy wants or deserves. If you can get a mid 1st rounder for him, that is in the team's best interest. This is a situation where enlightened self interest trumps standing on principle.
I remember when we had a mid-first round offer for him, a lottery pick even, but Pritchard turned it down and by the time Cho got here Rudy was being even worse than before D:. Damn that Cho for turning down those mid-round picks near the draft.
Aren't you supposed to be borderline unreasonable in negotiations? Isn't that how you get the best deal possible?
Rather than seeking to punish a player that wants a fresh start somewhere else, why not accommodate him and get what we can in a trade? Just because a player doesn't fit Nate's system we need to punish him? Seems a bit harsh to me.
See and here I thought he was being punished for acting unprofessionally and refusing to shut his fucking pie-hole and trying to leverage his way out.
