If he wants out eventually he'll get out. At least this makes the Blazers path easier if Denver gets a lot worse.

Maybe because their young guys, and want to live in a cool city, and not desperately hope to live in Sacramento, or Oklahoma City?

    ...or Portland?

home is where the heart is... I'm pretty sure most here could find solstice in Memphis (or most anywhere) with a cool 10M+ a year coming in

my point was that playing in a major market has other benefits... like a much better chance to win a championship with Stern's goons on your side because some fanbases generate bigger ratings. You probably knew that but were just playing stupid

Those are some shitty offers for a top 10 player. And WTF is with the fascination of adding James Johnson to every fucking Bulls trade idea these media people throw out? He's garbage, and holds 0 trade value.

You're right, there are tons of 'em, but if I had 10+ million in my bank account I'd probably get something a little fancier.

Carmelo can get the max in any city, so the amount of money is irrelevant for players of his caliber. If I could earn the same salary in any city of my choosing I sure as hell wouldn't pick Memphis.

    ^^ lame ^^

His earning potential in regards to local endorsements is far greater in larger markets than smaller ones.

I hope Melo goes to an east coast team. Lets make the east a little better so that our 9th place team in the west doesn't have a better record then the 4th place team in the east.

We as the 6th seed had the same record as the 4th seed east team. The only playoff team in the east with a worse record than #9 Houston was Chicago by 1 game.

A few years ago there was a large discrepancy but not last year. I believe it will be about even this season as most of the talent that switched conferences went east. (Outlaw, etc)

Some lucky team with a GM that has the ability to actually make a deal will get a good one in Melo.

Although this is true, and I do agree in the past this has been a factor, I think for the most part for guys like Melo who make over 20 million dollars a year with their salary and shoe contracts, that the local endorsements are just excuses given instead of the truth. Now what that truth is will vary for each individual.

For Melo my guess he just likes a BIG city. And although Denver is pretty big, it is not NY or Chicago. When you have that much money the negatives of a big expensive area are somewhat erased. Melo is bored with Denver. Plain and simple. And his wife probably sees it as limiting her career. And I doubt she wants to commute leaving Melo alone with all the NBA groupies.

It will take more than an active GM to land Melo long term.

I'm fairly certain he has access to as many groupies as he wants, regardless of which team he plays for.

This was not really the point of my post, but don't you think they are more tempting if your wife is always out of town? Of course it doesn't matter what you or I think, it is what his wife would think. I am sure some NBA wives would prefer to go on the road with their husbands. (If they were aloud) The temptation is greater when they are not in the same state. Bottom line is if your spouse works in a different state, it is tough on a young marriage. And I doubt either of them want that.

Most likely could find...SOLACE... anywhere, sure. Especially with the right amount of money. But if all things are the same, the job, the money, again, why would someone choose a shitty city when they can choose, or try to choose, NY, Chicago, LA, etc.? But yes, I know, the NBA is all rigged. That's why we were treated to the exciting Lebron-Kobe matchup we all clamored for in the Finals the last two years.
