I didn't see a thread on this anywhere yet, but maybe I missed it. Anyway, here's Thompson's trade idea: Oden, Batum, Fernandez, & Miller for Carmelo. Obviously, this deal would never happen unless Carmelo is willing to commit to a long term extension with the Blazers (doubtful), but assuming he would do that, what do you think?
I wouldn't have done that deal for Chris Paul, and Chris Paul is much more valuable than Carmelo. So, no. I don't like the trade.
I think Carmelo is much more dominate and valuable than Paul. From a personality standpoint there is no comparison, (Carmelo is not really likeable) But I think Carmelo is a top 3 player. (offensively at least) The dude is a beast. But it is all a moot point. He is not coming here.
I disagree. If in the hypothetical were keeping Roy around then Paul is much more valuable than Caramello.
Remove Batum from the equation and I'd say do it, do it, doo it. I'd love to see Carmelo, Roy, LA on the floor.
Not that I think this would happen anyway, but why would they want Andre Miller? I'd much rather keep Miller on the team if we're going to deal for Melo. Miller Roy Melo Aldridge Camby I realize people think that Oden is our only chance, but I think that team is unbelievable on paper.
Exactly. He might only have a 25% (choose that number out of thin air) chance of having a injury free year, but that team would have an excellent shot at winning the west and competing for a championship. If the trade was made for Melo (whom I like alot) I think the team would not stand much of a shot at winning the west. I would rather roll the dice to win it all than lock in a good but not great team.
Already posted what I thought..... 3 days ago. http://sportstwo.com/threads/170204-Trade-Idea-for-Carmelo... Jump in to the existing thread about trade ideas for Carmelo anytime.
Hate the thought of Melo on the blazers and the moment you talk about trading Oden I then proceeded to throw up all over my Keyboard.
I'm gonna go with "Melo + another star who needs the ball in his hands = fail" because I don't understand the AI comparison either. Although I think Brandon can play really well off the ball too... so i'm more rambling because that did not make sense to me.
Personally I think Melo and Roy could play very well together. If we somehow brought Melo in, and I'm not saying it could happen (but if it DID happen), I think Roy would move into the primary ball handler role. Miller would have to go. I would like to see Roy focus more on distributing, put Melo in the primary scoring roll, and have LMA as our third option. With so much scoring, I don't think we'd need much from the center or point guard positions. I'd actually try to make a push for a shooter like Mo Williams. The point guard would essentially be a spot up shooter, with Roy handling the ball and Melo drawing most of the defensive focus.
Really? You're banking on that? I'd say Oden's chances of bringing a championship to Portland are extremely slim right now, based on his fragile body.
You're right. It is. Oden is a big question mark, while Anthony is a proven, durable superstar. Big difference.
And what are the chances of the Blazers bringing a championship to Portland without Oden? Extremely, extremely slim.
With the starting lineup that NateBishop3 mentioned? I beg to differ. That lineup would definitely compete for a championship, in my humble opinion.
