After hearing the podcast of Joel Przybilla's interview at 95.5 the game from media day, I actually believe he's going to be ready to go by game five of the season. I don't know why I believe that, but he just sounds so upbeat and so sure of himself and his rehab. Camby and a mostly healthy Pryz to back him up aint bad if Oden isn't ready to go until Christmas (yikes?). Good on him.
+1 Like I said months ago, If anyone can rehab from this its Przy. Even if he's not fully back to his old self I still believe he'll be a force to be reckoned with in the paint, he's a sleeper when it comes to blocking shots
OMFG come on, some National Reporter asked if he would be back by Christmas. As Oden hasn't been given a timeline (sounds like they are giving zero timeline, zero expectations as their standard answer) he said "I don't know". That in no way means he won't be back until Christmas, it means there is no timeline. Sheesh.
Assuming that Oden has normal bones, shouldn't there be a generally-accepted timeline to return from this injury. On Courtside, the homer announcers said that the doctors told Oden his knee is healed, but Oden tells the docs he is still experiencing pain. At some point, you have to wonder about the mental toll these catastrophic injuries have taken on such a young man.
To be fair, these aren't mutually exclusive. The broken patella is completely healed, but Oden is experiencing paid due to patellar tendinitis. I can live with that.
Exactly right. While I'm disappointed that Greg isn't going to be back for the start of the season, I think that taking a cautious approach is definitely the right thing to do. Greg's suffered two major knee injuries and it's going to take time for him to figure out what's normal pain that he has to work through and when his body is telling him to ease up. It's also going to take time for him to feel confident about his knees and just start playing. I can just imagine how ballistic this place would go if the Blazers rushed Greg back now and he went out and had another injury because he wasn't ready. Patience is a virtue when it comes to Greg's recovery.
I'm more encouraged because you're encouraged but I'm discouraged by the lack of encouraging news coming about regarding Oden's courage. Old Man Duncan is going to play more minutes this season!
