Great read I really like articles that let us get to know the people around the Blazers a little bit more. Rice is defiantly entertaining to listen to.
I remember that....I think. I kept telling my friends how Strom was the best, but Then Rice came on and destroyed everyone.
I've said before on here that Rice comes across as a goof most of the times. It's just an act. The guy is just having fun with his job. He flat out knows hoops! You'd be surprised how many players/refs/coaches/GM's all make their way over to him pre game to talk and check in with him. You sit down with him for dinner and just talk, he knows everything college and pros. Get the LeaguePass and see how many BAD color guys there is in this league, if they can put 2 words together, they don't have any hoop knowledge. And if they do, they are boring and dry. Props to the WildOne!
I like Rice, and agree that he's more knowledgeable about basketball than he comes off as. That said, I cringe a lot when he's on courtside, thinking he's about to be fired for insulting one demographic or another.
Rice is legendary. I know other teams' fans hate listening to him because they think he's a goof, but oh well. What other team has a color analyst who gets signs made about him from fans at home AND away games? Pretty unreal.. and adds to the aura of this little world of Blazer fandom.
I was spoiled growing up listening to "Slick" Leonard and Clark Kellogg, but still prefer the "dry" Quin Buckner doing the Pacer games over the Mikes. I also love listening to Frazier do the NY games and think Clyde does a decent job in Houston. What good is it that Rice knows the game if all that he talks about during broadcasts are the refs? MB just mirrors whatever said and never adds anything of importance. When I first started listening to those two, win or lose I would still be pissed about the game. I learned to use the mute button very quick and put up with the time lag between radio and TV. I would love to see Snapper and TP as replacements.
You lost all credibility when you thought Drexler and Frazier are good! They might be the 2 most clueless guys in the league!
For me, the game sells its self and you do not need to do much. I can listen to them without pulling my hair out. I have the same problem with Reggie Miller, JVG, and Mark Jackson. Let the game sell itself.
