So when Greg becomes a RFA next summer and say a team offers him $55M/5 years....... all we have to do is match it right and he's ours. Am I correct?

Assuming there is no lockout or the CBA doesn't change, yes.

Bird rights baby. Lux tax time, just around the corner for Pauly Want A Cracker. He better start ponying up and sell a yacht or two.

I just read that the ATL hasn't even made an offer to re-up Horford! That is crazy to me. They better not let him slip away. They have shown in the past to be unwilling to spend bigtime, so maybe the Johnson contract has them thinkin'!

Don't you remember how long it took us to offer Brandon?

Maybe they're waiting it out until the offseason when they can test the market. They obviously have his bird rights, so its not a big deal with a restricted free agent. Teams do this often.

By the way, I read they were in negotiations.

Or, Oden, at his choice, can sign a one year qualifying contract and then when that season ends he will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2011/2012 season.

I don't know that I see Greg giving up a guaranteed 3-to-5-year deal for a 1 year QO.

I think they need to offer him a contract extension by october 30th.... if they dont, all they can do is match or offer a one year qualifying offer...

    i may be wrong

That OSU education is obviously NOT paying off! I do know they can offer him whatever they want when he is restricted!

That's true. If the Blazers don't offer a QO, then they lose the Bird rights. It's a given that the Blazers will offer the QO, though.

The QO has to be offered in order to keep Bird rights. The risk of doing so is that Oden may decide to take the QO, but if he accepted it his agent would be the dumbest agent in history.

I don't think we let him get away! We have invested too much!
