Bayless traded to NO

Well, as the season goes on, that draft pick will either go up in value as the Hornets do poorly, or it will go down in value as the Hornets do well. It really is all about timing. Cho will have to know when to cash in his chips. If the Hornets are in a major slump at the bottom of the standings, that would probably be a good time to push that pick.

 

Yeah, but you hear what I'm saying though, right? If they're in the late lottery range, that pick is going to have significantly more value than if they were in the top four of the west.

 

"I want the Ball a lot more" -Brandon Roy. Now he will be our primary 'backup PG,' with Armon being our legit backup pg. End of story.

 

More like 14-20 range considering they picked 11th last year when Paul missed half of the season. Now he's back and their starting rotation has improved. Hell, Paul alone is mostly all they need.

I'm not terribly concerned over losing Bayless because of a lot of things mentioned, but as an asset he could have been used better to bring something better back. Instead we get a pick and a big question at backup PG. One injury to Rudy(who wants to return to Spain) or Matthews(whose achilles is already bothering him) and we'll have even less depth.

 

They were 23-22 last year when Paul played.

 

That depends on the level of stinkage.

 

As I mentioned earlier in this thread I think the Hornets are on the bubble for the lottery. They are not a good team imo.

 

They were 25-21 with Paul before he went down for a couple months and that was after a slow start. They were coming on strong as they were 11-5 in their last 16 games when he then went down to injury. After he went down they went 7-17. Pretty sure that wouldn't have happened if he was healthy.

Now they have a better starting lineup this season and actually have Bayless/Thornton/Peja coming off the bench. They should shoot way over the 37 wins that landed them the 11th pick last year.

 

They'll be about a .500 team at the worst unless there are injuries. They could be like the Rockets were last year and be 42-40(I think it's fair to say a healthy Paul can at least add 5 more wins) which landed the Rockets with the 14th pick in the draft. That's Luke Babbitt territory. It's not that great.

 

That number is wrong.

I'm not sure you can even count Thornton as he has sucked in pre-season and has fallen completely out of favor with
Monty Williams. He is most likely the reason they wanted Bayless. Peja hasn't been effective in a while.

 

I counted the 8 games he missed before the big injury. They went 4-4, no big deal. Doesn't really skew anything at all.

Preseason is preseason. Chris Paul hasn't played well in preseason either. Thornton is also strictly a 2 while Bayless can still be called a combo guard. They'll play together most likely with Peja. Peja as a starter isn't effective, but off the bench? Big difference. He won't play nearly as minutes this year with Ariza there which will be good for him. He can still knock down the 3.

 

I'll give Jerryd a ton of credit, he handled himself like a pure pro the whole time he was here, he had far less given to him than Rudy and comported himself in a way that tells me he's not only a hard worker but also a class act.

2 first round picks and 2 valuable expiring contracts. We have some nice little assets to work with.

 

Luke Babbitt range? You can find good players up and down the first round and into the 2nd round.

 

I wonder if we aren't going to move (sooner or later) Dre to second string and start Wes or possibly Rudy and shorten the rotation. It does make us very flexible.

Roy would be able to handle the ball more on the first team and the second team becomes more potent. Rotat in Johnson and you have a much smother team. Just a thought.
