We score 58 points in the 1st half, too, and this was a blowout for us. Ray Allen literally didn't guard Bogans, so he got a breather on the defensive end. Instead of having to work to chase some guy around, he got to stand as close to the lane (baseline) as he could without it being 3 seconds, while Bogans stood out past the 3pt line. They obviously didn't care to guard Noah much, judging by all the fairly wide open looks he got from above the FT line. At least Noah made them pay for it.
I'm really not liking Noah's confidence to bring the ball up court. It's all good when he leads a fast break during the 3rd or 4th quarter, but not during crunch time. I don't trust anyone but Rose to make something happen with the ball in the last 2 minutes.
They are all just trying to do too much, Rose included. It's going to be a growing process. No one knows their role yet. I really like how the Celtics are set this season. KG and Pierce look about two season younger than they did last season, and Rondo is as good as ever.
Rose, Korver, Noah, Taj, Deng. I think Kover played all 12 minutes of Q4 when they came back to tie the game, plus the entire OT. He probably needed a blow, but the Celtics had to actually guard all 5 players.
although noah lost the ball at a critical time, he normally does a nice job bringing the ball up. I dont have a problem with that. Rose loses it every once in a while. Noah played a hell of game! 26 pts 12 rebounds 2 assists a steal and a block.
I read last night where many fans are upset with Bogans. I thought he played well last night, quite frankly his best over all game! How many scoring guards get 8 rebounds? He had 4 assists and three steals, played some nice defense! Yet, some fans rail against him. He took just 3 shots, and scored 4 points. Brewer is coming along. That is bad news for JJ. The better brewer plays, the more minutes he will get, and it is just a matter of time before he is the starting SG. JJ had been outplaying Brewer. I dont see him out playing Bogans. Gibson is playing very well. Finally cut down on his fouls. Just 1 turnover. Did you know he is shooting 64% for the season? He is averging 15 pts a game! Boston done a nice job on Rose. Yet he wound up with 18 pts and 9 assists. Deng stunk it up in the first half. He finally came alive in the second. Nice overall game. I didnt like two straight plays in the 4th quarter where he turned it over in the in-bounds play. We played an elite team last night, at their home. We had 19 turnovers. NBA teams dont with with 19 turnovers. We didn't have our all-star pf playing. We had a chance to win in regulation despite being down by 9 in the 4th quarter. A moral victory? Yes, but sometime soon, we need to see moral victories as things of the past. We need to see victories.
tbf Bogans played "well" because nobody was guarding him. Ray Allen didn't go within 15 feet of him on defense. While he could have been a lot more helpful doing double teams, etc., at least he got a breather at one end of the floor. He certainly looked fresh when he had that monster dunk in Q4. Bogans has a 7.8 PER, not even close to being an average player. The alternatives are a lot better: Korver 15.1, Brewer 12.7, Watson 11.4. Of the four, only Bogans is a downgrade from Hinrich. When the Bulls signed him, I thought it was just to take up a roster spot and maybe provide some emergency depth or to play in blowouts. But starting SG? Yikes.
I can't really say there was a better option this off season. Joe Johnson got locked up early; they made an offer to Redick which got matched; and the rest where only marginal improvements. I still believe that Deng will be fine once the offense gets fully implemented. And we forget to mention: he absolutely has Paul Pierce's number. Pierce never has a good game against him. That leaves us with a whole at shooting guard. They need to find better options at that position, they just need to. Bogans has produced as much as you could have hoped for and that's not enough.
So his three steals and 8 rebounds and 4 assists was because no one was guarding him?? hmmmm interesting. I agree, he is a not a starter. I am not arguing the fact that he was signed to be a back up. He gave us good numbers for a back up SG. imo.
From what I saw, Allen matched up with Bogans and Korver close to exclusively. So in roughly 22 minutes, Allen outscored Bogans 15-4. In about 18 minutes he outscored Korver 10-5. Obviously, it's going to be a losing matchup for us with either of those guys vs. Allen, but I suspect Korver is going to make him work defensively, while Allen is going to do whatever he wants against either of them on offense.
