I think people don't appreciate what they've got. I'd go to just about every game if I lived in Portland. I love the Blazers! Some people just let themselves be discouraged by the drama.

You people are spoiled. Let the once-mighty Pistons, from the once-mighty Detroit remind you of how truly shitty economies and teams can become.

(Cue Pistons victory, and collective death of Blazer fandom.)

Paul Allen is finally succeeding in alienating fans so he can move the team to Seattle. :)

In all seriousness, Roy Toy is dead on with his two reasons, but I would add that the fan base sees this team as an also ran. As Roy Toy said, it's boring as hell to watch, so if thet team isn't going anywhere, why pay all that money to watch them.

I live in Houston, and get league pass. This was the first year since I have been here that I deliberated getting it. Not for the cost, but because I have to stay up until midnight to watch some game games, and knowing they aren't making progress in getting to the finals, why do that?

Half the roster is built to push the ball, while the other half is better at a slower pace. Then we have a coach who says one thing but does the other. We have a team that was said to be one or two moves away from competing for a title, but trades a guy who gave us good minutes for a draft pick. It's like no one is on the same page

LOL, if we lose tonight, Blazer nation will come crumbling down.

I think all of the stated above reasons are contributing factors and will add a few others.

    1. It is early in the season, a weekday, and freaking Detroit. Historically sales are pretty good around the holidays, but are sort of sluggish until after the 1st of the year. There is not a superstar on the opposing team and most look at this game like a preseason one.

    2. There as been a gap between price and demand since Oden was drafted. The Blazers have maintained a pretty high season ticket holder base by incrementally increasing prices. It appears to be bridged.

The Blazers just need to win. That will solve our problems. We had a lousy preseason and the regular season has been a little bumpy as well. If we get Joel and Greg back soon and we win consistently the fans will come in droves.

They announced the Toronto game as a sellout, but there looked like quite a few seats behind both benches that were empty.

While it's not helping, it hasn't hurt sales of Duck tickets

It's the Blazers own fault with Comcast, to be honest.

I had no clue there was a game today.

Only a few Duck games though. Say you used to be able to afford 50 sport games a year and now are limited to 20. 8 of your 20 are going to be Ducks instead of 8 of 50.

Yep. Many other markets ran into the same problems before the Comcast deal was signed. They can claim ignorance but it was either being too lazy to pick up a paper or greed.

This is a good post. And not just because I agree with every bit of it. ;)

Yeah I see that as a valid point as well. Ducks look like favorites to win it all.

    Portland? Not so much...

I'm assuming that Detroit was at least part of 2 of those sellouts.

When you get drubbed by the Lakers by 20+ and your star doesn't show up, and your coach isn't fired for not having his team ill prepared yet again... the fans think it's 1 and done as usual and the DUCKS seem far more interesting!!!! Why pay for tickets for lackluster play with players who are making more than some professional two income families yearly salaires per game?

I am surprised there is not much mentioning of the Blazers raising ticket prices the last few years. How strange the economy goes in the tank and the Blazers raise their prices again. I am a season ticket holder in section 211. And if I didn't have two friends that each bought half the season I would have let my tickets go.
