They benched him for Rex Grossman, after signals from Shanahan that he wasn't a big McNabb fan, and then sign him to a huge, long-term deal? Okay.
The contract is one thing, but the $40 million guaranteed boggles the mind. So much for the owners whining about losing money during the upcoming labor negotiations.
Locking him up is one thing, but guaranteeing $40 million is basically bidding against yourself. Reminds me of Memphis offering Rudy Gay the max without even waiting for other teams to make a bid on him.
Brady was given $48.5 million guaranteed. No way McNabb is worth $40 million guaranteed. Not even close.
A QB like McNabb would easily get offers in that range in free agency. The Vikings paid Favre over 20 million to play this year. You don't think they would guarantee 40 to McNabb? Brady has always been the type of player to take less money to help the team, you can't use him as a comparison. Wait til you see what Peyton gets...
No, I don't. McNabb is an average QB at this point of his career. He has a QB rating of 76 this season, and has 7 TDs and 8 INTs. Frankly, I'd rather give Vick more money than McNabb at this point, at least in terms of of on-field production. Vick is playing elite football right now, and he won't command near Brady money this off-season. I can see the Vikings making a strong play for Vick.
Well, it's now being reported that the 40 million figure is not accurate. So Philly lets him go? No way. Kolb will likely be the one to go. McNabb would have been the prize. Stats are for losers, McNabb is a winner. He did it for years with very little help in Philly, now he's taken over a team that won 4 of 16 games last year and has won 4 of 8. There are a number of teams that are a QB away from being something, especially with all the parody in the league right now.
I don't see why Vick wouldn't want to become a free agent, and Kolb is guaranteed $12 million next year. If Philly wants to lock up Vick, they will have to do it now from a position of not knowing his market value. Which means they will have to overpay right now in order to ensure Vick doesn't become a FA after the season.
I think it's something Andy Reid has to do. He's all done if Vick leaves because he decided not to risk overpaying.
I do agree. I'm just not sure Vick signs unless it's a ridiculous deal in Vick's favor. Mike may as well wait until the off-season to see what is out there, and at that point, if he wants to go back to Philly, then Reid can pony up at that point.
27 QB's have a higher QB rating than McNabb. That actually stunned me quite a bit. I didn't think he was playing THAT bad, but it's the truth. This is a moronic move of epic proportions by the 'Skins. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=0&statisticCategory=PASSING&season=2010&seasonType=REG
MNF guys said the deal is worth only $10 million guaranteed. That's totally fair. The guaranteed money is all that matters in the NFL, and that's a good price for McNabb, I think.
Jesus, he's not even worth that. Holy shit he looks like hell tonight. 28-0 Philly first quarter isn't even over. This is amazing!
how many years in the NFL has McNabb played and you're judging him on one half of one of those seasons? I suppose David Garrard is the one that deserves 30 million, then.
Just pointing out the facts. He was extended today, and today he's the 28th highest rated passer in the NFL.
