At this point, it's starting to sound like it'll be scientifically easier and more cost-effective to simply build a brand new Brandon Roy from scratch.

If next year is wiped out to a lock out, as you note, golden opportunity.

MF does not 'rebuild' the meniscus ... in fact it doesn't have anything to do with the meniscus at all; MF creates a sort of 'scab' cartilage on the heads of the bone (articular cartilage) a meniscus is a sort of pad of cartilage that sits between the bones as a free body that cushions impact.

A star shooting guard. A face of the franchise. A career tragically cut short by knee injuries. We Blazer fans have seen it before:

Those are procedures to help people live day to day lives, to help them get up the stairs, to help them drive in a basic automatic car, to help them stay alive. They can put an artificial knee in people which can reduce pain so they can walk down the street, but you can never run with one, you could never partake in athletics.

We don’t live in a star trek society; to think major knee replacements could return a player to a level of performance of the top 100 basketball players on the planet is delusional.

$6m in 1978 dollars (last year of the Steve Austin TV Show) is $20m today. With Brandon making $14m/year now - and next year being a lockout year, my calculations show that February (right around the all-star game) is the perfect time, money wise, to perform the operation.

Make it so, Cho, make it so.

If we do not live in a star-trek society how do you explain my Klingon dictionary?

Heck, what Brandon really needs is an emergency holographic doctor.

That is pretty encouraging. Hopefully the strength and conditioning team and medical team can get it right. :sigh:

If we have to lose a star to early retirement, I'd rather it be a shooting guard. It's easiest position to replace by far (see - Wes Matthews vs Memphis Grizzlies).

That implies we have plenty of stars to lose and it's just a matter of picking a position. Stars are hard to replace, regardless of the position. Portland had only one major star (with the hope of a second if Oden ever stays healthy) and they just lost him, potentially forever. That he played shooting guard doesn't make it any easier to replace him as a star.

Oden a star, albeit a much less shiny one. Aldridge is really more like a comet (we only see him once every 100 years). Regardless, losing a scoring shooting guard is much easier to replace than a center or a power forward, or even a small forward who has the physical attributes of Batum. As much as I love Roy, there's usually one or two shooting guards in every draft that can score the ball.

Sounds like an urban legend, but it's entirely possible. Roy must know that he will never be the same player again, and that's got to really burn him. It's hard to go from a burgeoning superstar to a second-fiddle kind of player.

    Huh?

That completely reminds me of how they attacked Amare's knee issues in PHX.

That would result in some cap relief, at least...

If I remember correctly, Jamal Lewis barely limped off of the practice field when he tore his ACL--the initial prognosis was a bruise--and I don't think he's unique.

I find it unlikely Roy tore his ACL, but the absence of crippling pain doesn't indicate he did not.

People have large swelling in the knee as well, which Roy does not.

I'd love for Roy to have a torn ACL, because that is usually a very succesful surgery and should greatly improve an athletes performance.

Sadly there just isn't a fix for not having a meniscus.
